Post: I am looking for a mentor in the metro Detroit area

I am currently going to school at Central Michigan University, and am going to major in accounting or finance with a minor in real estate. I am looking into possibly finding a mentor for the summer, sorta like a summer internship. Through podcasts and books, i have gained some knowledge of how real estate works. Nothing beats on the job training though, and that is what i am looking for. I would like to do rental property one day, but i am willing to learn any type of real estate investing. I have some capital to use, but i need guidance so i don't lose the money i saved up my entire life. If you can help get my investing career off the ground, i will help you with yours any way i can for the rest of the summer. If anyone is interested, please message me.
Anyone not in or near Detroit, feel free to give advice on how to find a mentor as well as the qualities they should have?

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I think I'm going to stay in school and finish a degree. Leaning towards accounting with a minor in real estate. I think I do need a change in scenery? Anyone got a college reccomendation for real estate and for my academic level(obviously I don't have much of a chance to get into ivy or anything). I was thinking Ohio State. Anyone else have an opinion for me?

I have okay grades in college. A 3.2 GPA which isn't bad for my first semester. I was thinking about dropping out though and pursuing real estate investing. Should I? If I don't drop out, besides real estate, what major could help me do the real estate work?

@Adrian Luckie
I have listened to the first two episodes of the podcasts and even took notes on them. I will continue to listen since they get such great reviews. Thank you so much for the advice.

@Richard Ball
I am interested in wholesaling for now. I want to do buy and hold rental property when I'm older and a little more experienced. Especially because I plan on moving to Ohio and a lot of wholesalers are facing law suits I've heard. I am from the Detroit area, but am currently attending school at Central Michigan University so this is now my home away from home. Thanks for welcoming me. I'm hoping to get the full BiggerPockets experience and learn many new things.
