@Ashleigh Leach ok. Obviously that is the goal. Doesn’t really offer any insight to the question I asked though.

@Christopher Smith thanks for the insight. I’m not haphazardly doing anything here. I was just asking if there were other vehicles of savings funds that have potential to grow the money at a higher rate and that I have easy access to when I am ready to invest in more real estate.

Hi BP Community,

This year in June I purchased my first buy and hold property - a duplex. I know that it is important to have cash reserves set aside for unexpected issues that may arise with the property. However, should I just be sitting this money in the bank account that I have set up for it or investing it in some type of investment account so that it grows faster? If so, what type of investment account? Is that what the self-directed IRA accounts are for? I am wondering if there is something that I am not doing that I should be doing besides just saving it in the property savings account that I have. Right now all I do is collect the rents from the property management company each month and have the mortgage payment coming out just the same. Thanks for your advice!

hi chinyere - no i did not start off with a mentor. i had been attending the weekly webinars, reading articles and stuff on bp leading up to purchasing my first buy and hold duplex in june. i did not join a mentorship program until about two weeks ago. definitely, you can invest and start your real estate journey without it.

Also, I love how you’ve not been afraid to step outside your local area and invest in opportunities around the NE and also explore virtual wholesaling! How did you form your BP mastermind? As in, are all the members local to your area or did you find like-minded individuals on BP and decide to connect?

hi hannah - i did not form the mastermind myself; it was already a small group of folks that were gathering on a regular basis before i was invited to attend a mtg. to my knowledge, none of the members in the group were from the same place; we all met through bp. i no longer attend that mastermind, actually, but it was the catalyst to me joining a team not shortly after meeting my now-partner from the group.

I’ve had an interest in RE for at least 5 years, but like many others, I have fallen victim to my comfort zone in my career. Like you, I’ve been blessed to work remote since March. Since then, my wheels have been spinning nonstop and I cant help but to breath, eat, and sleep real estate. My wife is likely tired of me talking about it every day. I just need that team, support and direction. The hardest part is just starting. Looking forward to hearing more on your journey.

that is awesome to hear! working from home definitely is a blessing for those of us that have chosen to make it so. i hope the fire keeps burning and growing

@Nina Granberry, Congratulation!! your story is very inspiring. Did you go through Doug Depte mentorship program. I'm new to REI and was thinking about taking his course.

i joined the a+e mentorship program about two weeks ago. i attended the ride along in august and have been implementing everything i learned since that day (there's a long list of things i have accomplished based on the information the ride along alone). when i felt like i had reached a point of needing more guidance, that's when i decided to join. it is definitely worth it. doug is an amazing teacher, humble and if you put in the work, you definitely will be successful.

@Hannah Williams thank you! I met Keston on BP through a small mastermind group that someone reached out to me about. Once I attended a meeting and Keston and I started to chat, we quickly realized that we had similar goals and a mindset to attack those goals. He lives in GA and brought the other two people together to form our team of 4. As I mentioned in an earlier response, I’m in Brooklyn, another member is in NC and keston and his wife are in GA. We hold our team meetings on zoom and the work of the business is divided amongst the 4 of us.

I’d definitely say that connecting with people on BP helps with making progress and stepping outside your comfort zone

@Noah Wasserman I’m looking forward to hearing about your progress. And do not let the lack of like-minded individuals around you discourage you. You can do it. My team is scattered across the country. There are 4 of us. I live in Brooklyn, half of us live in GA (husband and wife) and the other member lives in NC. And we make it work. Just stick your goals and try to map out the steps it will take to reach them. You got this!
