Thanks Chad, that's exactly what I needed! Given I'm in the process of my first note, I wanted someone who could answer the 1-800 number professionally, while I'm at my career job.

Asset is in California. This is my first note, so I've never tried here, but with our privacy laws, I would guess a lender would never release the status of a loan to a third party here. I'm surprised they will do so in the US, but if they will that's great.

Thanks Joe, so am I being unreasonable to ask the vendor to pull a current report and send it to me?
Thanks Jack. I saw them, but was hoping there was a cheaper - VoIP set up I could use to have a voice mail and a professional appearance w/o the cost. I guess $50/month isn't the worst expense to appear professional.

Thanks Jim. It's a non-preforming note 2nd, so I'm ok with the poor payment history on my note. My concern is the 1st is supposed to be current (and was in 2012), but I have no way of confirming their the amount or the currency today, w/o a credit report. Sounds like the answer is get a recent report (either myself or from the vendor) or wait for a better one.

The to be unnamed credit reporting agency is giving me grief about pulling a credit report on a creditor for a note I don't own (which is fair enough I suppose). It's my first, so what is the usual practice? Am I being unreasonable to ask the vendor to pull a current report and send it to me? I'm sure the contracts permit potential assignees to pull a credit report, but I can't show the agency as everything is under a CA.
Thanks
Anyone set up a home office or a virtual office. Looking for recommendations for easy, cheap (set monthly) long distance within Canada and the US. Maybe a mail box service etc. I’d like a professional outward appearance and I’d rather not be using my home address/number. Maybe VoIP? Things I'm not thinking about that would benefit me.

Hello all,
As I understand it, one of the better ways to limit the risk of getting wiped out as a 2nd, is to make sure that the 1st is current. At the pre-offer stage, which is as far as I'm at now, how can I determine with accuracy the status and amount of the 1st note?
I know some websites display these, but I've heard they are often wrong, or guesses, and don't include any back interest on the 1st notes.
Apparently, finding this information is not hard, but I have not idea where to look.
Thanks

How do you determine whether a first is being paid if you want to pick-up the second?
