Good afternoon Everyone,

My name is Christopher "Pez" Lopez, I go by Pez in my personal and work life. I moved here to Indy 7 months ago to work for Lilly and start my adult life after graduation from a university in Michigan. I've spent a lot of time reading about real estate and, as of yesterday, closed on a duplex. I will be living in one side and the other side has tenants in the Section 8 program paying in total, 1k in rent every month; this covers about 80% of the mortgage. I'm told we had a unique closing due to some seller side issues, one of which was relocating the wrong tenants!

Excited to see what comes after this as this is hopefully my first step of many more in real estate investing, property managing, and being a landlord. Currently, researching how to best communicate with tenants, collect rent, and preparing for the renovations to be completed on the side I will be living on. Always happy to talk and meet, buy a cup a coffee for with anyone willing to share some wisdom as I step into this real estate world.

Nice to meet everyone on the forum!

Pez

@Jamie Jones, @Neil Goradia, @Dmitriy Fomichenko@Mark Radford, Thank you for the friendly welcome. I have been listening to the BP podcasts and would like to think I have learned a significant amount already. I still have so much more to learn but, lucky for me, I also have time until I get back into the country. I have a partner who will be looking at properties while I am abroad so that we can live in one-half of the duplex and our renters in the other.

I plan to stick to my day job for a very long time! I just hope I can start this RE plan sooner rather than later. My partner and I don't mind extra issues to work through, I used to be an EMT and worked 70 hours a week and I am looking forward to the extra work rather than sitting around after my day job. I will start to look into those areas, Mark. My partner was thinking about buying a property in the range of the 30-60k so we could pay it off sooner but the more I listen to BP and read on the forums, buying in those types of areas lends itself to worse problems down the line and renters we might not enjoy too much. Additionally, I have really taken a liking to the BRRR strategy. So, many thoughts! I appreciate all the advice and support. I can't wait to tackle this head on. The best way to learn is with first advice from those who have experienced then experiencing it myself right? So, for now, more reading for me and then, soon enough, get to tackle it myself! Thanks again!

Not sure if this is the right place, but just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Christopher "Pez" Lopez, actually most people don't know my real name and only know Pez. I just finished up my second internship with Eli Lilly and will be spending my final year abroad, thanks to a full ride scholarship, in Santiago, Chile. When I return to Lilly and Indy upon graduation, I hope to house hack a duplex or larger and begin my career both at Lilly and in RE. I'm reading books and reading the forums here on BP. Looking forward to meeting and speaking with other like minded people in the Indy area. My personal goal is 30 doors by 30. Thanks for reading! Pez
