I think it totally depends on the title company.  The one where I am a fee attorney has a few local ones we always use and then there is a service we use that sends them out (I'm sure they charge $x and then pay the notaries $x/2 or something like that).

If you get in with a title company you can make those fees.  There are notaries at every bank (free for customers) and fedex/ups/store and they charge ~$5.

Sometimes they will take a letter from your lending instead of actual bank accounts.
