Mark Poulton I'm sorry mark I'm not familiar with "TOP" what does that mean exactly ? So in order to meet the must occupy terms I can only rent out one side. And would technically have to live in the other side for a year or how ever long the terms are. Wouldn't I be in the negative for a while cause I can't rent out 2 units only 1?

Mike B. Thank you mike. I'm pretty sure I'm going to house hack utilizing the VA loan at least to get my feet wet.

Ali Boone hello Ali I'm from LA California. I'm stationed in Germany and we'll be getting reassigned to Texas this month I'm looking forward to it because it is a good place to start as a real estate investor. But before I go to Texas I will have about a month of leave to relax and enjoy some family time. I would also like to take the time to talk to a couple real estate investors while I'm home. Mark Poulton Good to know thank you. So I'm only an E-3 and I won't be eligible to live off base and get BAH. I get E-4 in 6 months and I might me able to receive BAH Depending on how full the barracks are. So do you think it would be a bad idea to use my VA LOAN buy a multi family or duplex and house hack. But I will be ghosting (technically living in the Barracks but actually living somewhere else) or just wait until I'm eligible to receive BAH and receive more money to actually go towards my mortgage. What are your thoughts on this Mark?

Mark Poulton hey Mark did you use your VA loan for your first purchase? If so how soon can you move out so you can rent it out... and what is the process behind it changing it to your home that you reside in to an investment property?
