If you want to create “generational wealth” look no further than your own backyard

@Hai G. Texas might be a good place to invest in general, but it sucks if you live in CA. Texas has high property taxes (balanced by no state income tax) but as a CA resident you gotta pay CA state income tax.

So high property taxes, high state income tax. Double whammy. You might still come out ahead, but you’re far better off investing locally.

@Isaura Orellana 21% annual appreciation? So these $45K homes are going to be worth $90K+ in 5 years?

@Suthy M. that is absolutely insane to only get $2300 for a 2bed in San Jose. That's the same rent in deep East Oakland, where there aren't any Google engineers :)

my man @Amit M. said it right...for $1.9M you should be buying in SF.

Just saw this article from VICE, who is calling out BP and its members for plotting to "screw over" tenants. They blurred out members' names, but I do recognize one forum signature from @Jay Hinrichs

Some of the tips from VICE: organize a rent strike & build power with other tenants.

The county planning department won't get you anywhere. GO visit the City of Oakland Planning Department. They are actually pretty helpful. Ask for Aubrey Rose, he leads the department. Bring in a list of addresses and pictures if you can. They can google map the addresses and let you know what is vs what isn't possible. Anything they can't answer they will refer you to the Building Dept which is 10 feet away.

Go either first when they open (8AM) or closer to 2PM. Avoid Wednesday mornings.

Tenant lost his roommate in April and could not afford to stay there by himself... instead of moving out, he paid $5k for someone to move in so that he could negotiate a buyout w me....

I ended up paying him $61K....Ugh...

I thought you only buy condos. Why are you doing tenant buyouts on condos?
