This thread has been very useful to me already as a rather new member, thanks @all. If I may ask the CPA's or knowledgeable people, what do you suggest for me if I plan to start out purchasing buy&hold properties for the cash flow? My target is not to flip a house.

Thanks in advance!

Post: New Investor from Staten Island

Hi Loui, I have lived for 8 months in Staten Island and just moved to the city. I am relatively new as well in the way that I have not yet purchased a rental property though am reading since several months actively on this forum and books as well as listening to podcasts.

There are meet ups in the Bronx/Brooklyn as far as I am concerned. However, I have not gone yet to one. Generally though, I am interested in meeting up too. First, let us know a little bit about yourself and your RE goals.

Happy Investing,

Sandro

@marty happle : Hey Marty, I am very interested in how your journey has progressed in these last couple of months as I am looking to start investing in Newark most likely. Therefore, if you don't mind of course:
- How's it working out with your investments in Newark?
- How's the property management company? (do you mind sending me their name via message?)
- Would you do it again?

Hey Johnny,

I am relatively new as well in the way that I have not yet purchased my first rental property. I have been reading quiet a lot about REI and listened to podcasts etc. As I do not have as much cash on hand at the moment and am looking for an attractive return, I am looking into the Newark area, some parts of Jersey City and Trenton NJ. Bronx seems to have still open deals too which would be possible for me personally. As you have more cash on hand you are able to look into more expensive areas too.

Generally though, the returns in Manhattan and Brooklyn are rather low (I assume because of "stable" property values and appreciation) but with some digging you might find a very good deal.

Hope to get some insights from this thread too and wish you of course successful investing.

I live in Manhattan and am very interested too. Let's stay in touch! I am interested in distressed buildings.

@Zulfi Zafar I am happy to hear that. How is it going for you in Trenton? Any experience to share?

I am planning to invest soon in Trenton as well.

Thanks,

Sandro

I have been looking at several properties online the last few days/ weeks in Trenton as well. As an outsider, it is kind of hard to see where the rather save neighborhoods are and where not, I feel.

Therefore my questions:

- Could you help me with names of rather good/ close to good neighborhoods?

- what ROI do you have & expect for these areas?

- Could somebody suggest a property manager?

- and have you seen already improvements in Trenton overall?

Thank you all very much already in advance. I will do further research now and would be very happy to get to know someone people who are interested as well.

Good luck on your journey in the meantime!

Hi @Kris Johnson

I currently live near Zurich (35 Minutes) but relocating to the U.S. (NYC) in the next 2-3 months. Knowledge wise I'm in a similar situation as you, so just in case, let's keep in touch for ideas in the future! What do you think?

Hi Hubert

I'm from Switzerland but new as well to the REI topic. Even though I'm relocating to the U.S. in a few months, I'd be happy to exchange ideas and tipps.
