I used to live in NE and had rentals there as well.  This is a very strong area and if you can come across rentals in that area, it would be worth your while to take a serious look.

You may be able to find some rentals in Princeton or Zimmerman, but I think you would have better luck looking closer to the metro area.  Maybe think about Elk River, Anoka, Coon Rapids, etc...
