Greeting, everyone. I want to get my license to gain additional education as well as the other benefits for personal investing in residential properties. My only concern is that I may soon have a job with a commercial real estate firm, and a firm I worked with in the past required agents register their licenses with one of the firm's brokers of record. Will there be a conflict if I want to have my license for residential use if my job requires me to register with its commercial broker? Can my license be associated with one broker for residential and another for commercial? Just want to avoid a sticky situation. Ideally, the work for the commercial firm will not be brokerage. If it makes any difference, I live in a Washington, DC,where most real estate agents tend to focus on either residential or commercial properties.

@Russell Brazil

Thanks, Russell! I'd really like the opportunity to check out a local REIA and BP meeting. Could I message you for more details?

@Mark Nolan

Thanks, Mark! Even with my background, I'm learning so much each time I visit BP.

Greetings Everyone!

I've been checking out articles, forums, and educational materials for the last month or so. I figure it's time to introduce myself and dive in. I'm a newbie investor in the DC metro area who plans to pursue a buy and hold strategy. I haven't ruled out other potential investment niches though.

I worked in commercial real estate for 3 years right out of undergrad negotiating leases for federal tenants. I also worked on the financial aspects of a public-private real estate partnership valued at $110M.  Despite being in the RE industry, I lost sight of my desire to invest! I found it again, and this time, I'm committed to turning it into reality.

I genuinely respect the community you all have developed here and look forward to participating and getting to know you.

Cheers,

Tim Lewis
