I'm a newbie investor and have been contemplating getting an on line real estate license to help me with many facets of the investing process. I wonder how many people have done this and what recommendations you might have for this effort (web site, company, association, networks, etc). Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Mike... this is great to see. I am a new investor with my first two homes in Austin area and not only got the increases in the mail recently, but tons of solicitations from "protest companies". I have never seen this before. Thank you for the intro on what this means and what to do next. It's resources like this that make BP so valuable!

Also, if you're talking about a living trust, that is generally formed in the state where you are a resident. Asset protection trusts may be able to be formed in other states, but your overall estate plan should be in the state where you reside.

Katie... great advice. I could have been more clear with my question. This is not asset protection, it is for my personal Living Trust and recording my assets. I will follow up on the details you've suggested. I appreciate your guidance.

I live in California and have property in Austin. I would love advice on whether I should add my properties to my trust; I've heard there are some states that don't recommend that. I would also highly appreciate Trust Attorney referrals in TX with whom I could talk about this situation.
Thank you in advance.

I’m looking to travel out of state to start looking at other markets for investing. How can I be creative with this activity so I can to write off the expenses as travel for business?
For example, do I need to have pre-established appointments before the travel is booked in order for it to be related to my real estate business?
Any lessons learned, recommendations or things to be aware of would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

I am in search of a tax advisor and/or CPA that is also a real estate investor as I start increasing my investing portfolio. I live in the SF Bay Area but currently invest in Austin, TX. I'm looking to expand to other areas of the country. Do you recommend someone local to the investments or does that not matter? Any referrals would be awesome (my current CPA does not invest and this has caused some confusion on strategy). Thank you in advance!
