@Brandon Ritter

It is my first time doing this so can't help you much. But as far as I know the informal hearing it will be you vs three people form Harris county and one from HCAD. Make sure you have all of the evidence/comps/pictures organized in a simple and easy to understand way.

Good Luck

@Huy N.

You are absolutely correct, they are trying to pull a fast one on people. They did appraise my property higher than market value. I have filled a protest and waiting on a date.

Good luck to all

I just got cabinets from Ikea and everything came around $2500. However, you can lower that by picking regular shelf instead the pull out cabinets. If you stick to the basic you will be able to get them for around $1800.

@Fred Heller

 Yes the appraisal value went up. Not personal it is an investment property (duplex) so no homestead.

Thank you for the information.

Hi All,

I just got my 2015 tax appraisal value and can say that Harris county appraisers are going crazy !!! Compared to last year I'm having 120% increase in taxes.

I'm planning to protest but not sure if I should do it alone or hire a company ? Can anybody recommend a local company that can help me?

Any advise is welcomed.

Thanks

It will be very beneficial if you attend one of the Houston BP meetings.

@Charles Nguyen is one of the organizers.

It depends on a lot of things:

1. Your price range per house?

2. The return you want ? For Houston I'm happy with any property that gets me more then 1%+ per month if it is less don't buy it. Also make sure you do not buy in flood zone and keep an eye on taxes.

3. Are you going to manage the properties? (Dd you have a full time job? If so you may want to get into area closer to your house.)

If it was me I would get into area that will allow cash flow and appreciate with time. So look into areas like Katy, Spring Branch, Areas around Heights or if you have a lot of $ look into it. Anything in the 610 loop on the North and West side of Houston are good areas but expensive. You may want to expand to the Beltway but keep into the North and West maybe South parts. Basically, if the numbers work and it meets your personal requirements It is a good buy. Reach out to some investor friendly real estate agents they should be able to help you. Make sure you check everything before executing. DO NOT TRUST ANYBODY.

Good Luck
