Today I spoke with a potential mentor/ partner and looked over my first absentee list I purchased yesterday. I also wrote down some ideas I have about how I will attack Real Estate investing.

There are so many other ways to get start than just those two. I suggest taking some time and reading through some posts and listening to the podcasts. There are so many creative ways to get started with very little money. I am in your shoes as far as finances and I am starting slow as well. It's kind of funny, at first you feel like it can be almost impossible to start with a tight or no budget but then after spending time on BP you are kind of overwhelmed with where you are going to start because there are truly a lot of ways to dive in.
As far as companies, I can't help because I am all the way in FL :) , try looking around in the Marketplace and see if anyone in your area is looking for an assistant or apprentice.
Hope this helps, I wish you the very best of luck.

Congrats on graduation, I am student myself (Business Admin) and am looking forward to that day. As I read your post the first thing that popped into my head was appraisal and then I read further and sa that was one of the options you came across.
However marketing allows for you to get a lot more creative with your craft. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you get some specific insight to your question.

Hi Nina-
if you don't get much traffic with your post in this forum, you might want to try posting in the Marketplace. You do need an upgraded account to post there but it is specifically geared towards posting needs and wants for us here on BP. You might be able to get some more feedback there.
Hope this helps.

James, I know you are probably looking for more expert advise but as I read your post I thought I would come on and say you can probably get some insight on what you want to by listening to a few podcasts. The reason I say this is because each person who shares has a unique way they got started and it might help you in making your decision.
Hope this helps, I think it is awesome you have decided to start an investing career with your money. I think it is the best decision anyone in your situation could have made.

Thank you so much Brandon! I am up right now listening to Podcast 34 (it is 3:01am btw). I can't help it. All I can think about is REI and Bigger Pockets. I will be sure to set up my keywords and check out the post!

I am interested, how are the loans structured typically? Are you exclusive to NY?

Hi Yasmine,
I new also so I definitely understand. Have you looked up in Real Estate investment meetup groups in your area or the local REIA? I have looked at a few but only been to one meeting. I suggest because you mention you are looking for someone to teach a newbie. I am looking for someone as well but my plan and you may want to consider it. If you can find anyone locally because of the competitive of the business, I am going to travel out of the area maybe even 2 hours away to meet with someone who will take the time to talk with me. Personally, I don't really have to have my hand held so if I only got a chance to do a face to face meeting every now and then and other times, follow up via email, text, skype or phone that would suffice.
Just a little food for thought,
Anyway, I wish you all the best and I plan to rent one of your vacation homes for the winter in the next year or so. I have to give you time to get things together :)
I totally agree, I am also willing to travel to learn. I mentioned that in my blog. Like you I am looking for a few meetings to start. I will also like to shadow someone to get a feel of being in the deal as it happens. Thanks for the insight it means a lot! I will be signing up to my local BREIA meetings very soon.
