When I read about people in the Bay Area buying $2.5 to $3 million homes near Silicon Valley (Santa Clara, Cupertino, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, parts of San Jose), my jaws drop looking at their mortgage payments, $22,000 to $27,000 month or more (I picked a few random homes on Zillow and plugged into a mortgage calculator).

I think a lot of people who are not in/from the mountains have no concept of how far and how tough a drive some of these places are from anywhere anyone would want to be.
