Hey New Orleans Investors! My partner @Matt Faircloth , author of the BP book "Raising Private Capital", and I are looking for a spot to host a happy hour on October 3rd in the afternoon the day before the conference. We'd like to do something fun in the French Quarter.  Is there anyone local to New Orleans that can help us find a spot and coordinate on the day of?

Thanks!

Hi Justin! I live in the New Orleans area. I'd recommend Monkey Board. It's a cool rooftop bar in close proximity to the French Quarter. I've never been but have heard great things. I'm not planning on going to convention, but would be down for a meet-up, if I'm in town!  https://www.monkeyboardnola.co...

Justin, how many people are you hoping to accommodate? Are you looking for the venue to provide food, drinks, etc.?

Hi @Justin Fraser. I live in New Orleans. If you are looking to do a happy hour for networking purposes the French Quarter is not the place to do it in my opinion. Most places will be crowded and so loud you can't hear yourself, much less anyone else talking. But if you just want to go have some fun there are many bars to choose from. If you'd like to visit an iconic spot in the French Quarter that would be a good spot for networking, check out The Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone. The Sheraton has a bar/lounge in it called the Pelican Bar if you wanted to make it easy. What type of Happy Hour event are you looking to do?

@Justin Fraser

I’m in for this! Keep me posted.

There’s a bunch of great places. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen though. Jazz fest has been canceled so I think most indoor places will have restrictions.

@Dennis Yosco You are correct. Jazzfest, Red Dress Run, and the Gretna Heritage Fest have all been cancelled. The governor of Louisiana issued a state wide mask mandate as of July 30, 2021. The mayor of New Orleans has the city in Modified Phase 3. See here for more info:  Latest Coronavirus Information

Many music and performance venues in the city now require all guests who wish to attend performances to provide a valid, complete Covid-19 vaccination card OR proof of a negative Covid-19 test (performed within the previous 72 hours) prior to entry into the venue, until further notice. Guests are required to provide proof of documentation along with a matching/valid ID for verification. Such documentation needs to be directly from the healthcare provider that performed the vaccination or the negative Covid-19 test within the previous 72-hours. Such proof may be displayed on a smartphone or presented as a physical copy. Masking of all attendees will also be required.

Unfortunately, New Orleans and Louisiana is once again a hot spot for covid. See here for more info:

@Justin Fraser it's a little outside of the quarter but the Wrong Iron bar would be a good spot. Its owned by Sidney Torres who is the host of the tv show "The Deed" on CNBC. I'm in the area and don't mind helping out.

 It’s gotta be tough down there. I truly hope everyone does what they need to do to stay healthy.
We planned on going for jazz fest and they added bpcon so I extended my trip. We’ll see what happens now though. I’d still like to attend though since I’m fully vaccinated and don’t mind being tested as much as needed.

Was looking forward to buying a STR while down there too

@Braden Smith I'm wondering where things will be in October. 2 months is nothing and things got worse here pretty fast. I just realized yesterday that the first time I wore a mask again anywhere was only 2 weeks ago and now there isn't a question. It's kind of insane at the moment and we don't know when it will peak. Schools are shutting down right and left from exposures. Not trying to be doom and gloom, but I've got some high quality toilet paper stockpiled in an undisclosed storage unit. Anyone wanna JV? Jokes aside, this is troubling for me attending BPCON21 personally with little ones. I hope that it all just subsides and more people do the right things.

Just make sure to look up and be familiar with the NOLA's rules to get a STR license for a property. I don't think they are allowed at all in the French Quarter. For the rest of the city, you pretty much need to be an owner-occupant who lives on the property. Though there are some exceptions for mixed-use properties. It's been a few years since I looked at it, but I don't think much has changed. There was a lot of local anger about STRs and votes from the masses are all City Council members care about.

The city is very much preoccupied with Hurricane Ida clean-up and regrouping, but if y'all end up doing a meet up prior to the conference please share the details.
You should know that Orleans parish (what we call a county) has implemented a vaccine mandate for most indoor establishments. Be prepared to show proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test (from the last 72 hours) to enter. The state is also still under a mask mandate, and I doubt any restrictions will be lifted prior to BPCon.
