If the bank won't approve you for 3 or 4 plex, try another bank. FHA can be used to get up to a 4 plex.

What are your long term real estate goal? Are planning to flip houses, rent, or something else?
I think any skill related to real estate investment is a boon. Becoming a home inspector opens up new doors. The fact that you already have kitchen and bath remodeling experience is also a great advantage.
However, I think you should consider where the job fits in the long run. This will help you decide whether it's a good fit.

You should check to see if you need to give them advance notice. The amount varies depending where you live.
You are justified in kicking them out when the lease expires. It's natural to feel guilty. However If tenants can't take care of your property, then you should look for better tenants.
I believe it will depend on two things:
1) Is debt a major life issue? Are you being hounded by creditors? Are you not sure with your next meal is coming from? etc. If so, then maybe get your financial house in order first while you continue to learn about real estate. Don't let a bad financial situation stop you from learning about real estate.
2) Are you planning on using your credit to buy real estate? If you don't have a good credit score, you are not going to get the best terms on bank mortgages. Depending on your credit score, you may even not be eligible for a loan. Having the ability to use bank mortgages is just one other tool to acquire houses.
There are tons of ways to get property without good credit like seller financing, hard money, private money, etc. Don't let bad credit stop you from learning about and using those techniques if they are the answers to getting around bad credit.
I hope that helps.

@Candita Darko Welcome to the site!
Biggerpockets is a great way to learn and network. One thing you can do to find a mentor is start regularly attending a local REIA. Most REIAs have monthly meetings to provide education and networking opportunities. I'm sure you;ll find a few possible local mentors there.

@Edgar Arias Here's a great list of books.

If your were only to get two books, i'd recommend "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" for inspiration and "The Book on Investing in Real Estate with No (and Low) Money Down!" for theory.
Also, check out the free podcasts. They have a ton of real life examples of people being successful in real estate,
Hope it helps.
