Welcome, @Thomas Smith IV!
I don't have any special insights on Birmingham....but you can set up keyword alerts here on Bigger Pockets so anytime someone posts about Birmingham or multi-family properties you'll be notified. That could be a great way to find and stay engaged with local investors and opportunities. http://www.biggerpockets.com/alerts
You can also search for other investors in that area and follow their journey on Bigger Pockets here: https://www.biggerpockets.com/search/users
Finally, if you haven't already plugged into the Bigger Pockets podcast, I can't recommend it highly enough - it's been a wealth of education and a huge confidence builder as me and my husband have pursued REI and built our portfolio.
Best of luck to you and look forward to following your journey!

Welcome, @Youwei Chen! Congrats for already being well on your way to success in real estate investing. So glad you jumped into the forums - we will all benefit from your experience here!
I can't say that I have any special insights on the markets you mentioned. However, I've been using the Bigger Pockets website and resources for long enough to add a few tips for you!

Welcome, @Princess F Brookshire! Sounds like you have a solid plan to launch your REI career in wholesaling.
If you haven't already plugged into the BP podcast, I can't recommend it highly enough. Lots of interviews with folks who started their career as wholesalers and built wildly successful businesses. I lurked in the forums and listened to the podcast for several years before making the leap to buying my first property. The education I received through the podcast was invaluable in giving me the knowledge and confidence to do the first deal. Eight properties later and no looking back now!
Best of luck to you and keep us posted on your journey!

Welcome, @Matthew Netwon Marquess! Sounds like you are doing all the right things to build a foundation for success in the industry. So glad you've already plugged into the Bigger Pockets podcast. It's been a huge source of education and inspiration for me and my husband on our REI journey.
As to next steps, I would recommend finding a real estate agent that you trust, and also start talking to lenders (banks, mortgage brokers, credit unions, etc.) I'm not sure what your financing strategy is for your early phases, and it sounds like you've got a solid background in finance. Through experience I can say that you will save time and money in the long run if you're familiar with all your options now. And be sure to check with folks other than your family banker (where you carry all your accounts) - you'd be surprised how much price / term shopping can save you on your first few deals.
Best of luck to you and I look forward to following your journey!

Welcome, @Daniel Alvarez! Seems like your experience as a title agent will be a huge benefit as you continue on this journey - and you'll be a great addition to the forums with that expertise!
So glad you're already plugged into the podcast - it's been a huge source of education and inspiration for me and my husband in our REI careers.

Welcome, @Raul Guerrero! So glad you found Bigger Pockets - I've seen quite a few recent posts from new members either stationed in Europe or recently transitioned from Europe to the US...
If you haven't already - be sure to plug into the Bigger Pockets podcast. It's a huge source of education and inspiration.
Also, I would recommend finding a real estate agent that you trust, and begin talking to lenders (banks, mortgage brokers, credit unions, etc.) I'm not sure what your financing strategy is for your early phases, but it will save you time and money in the long run if you're familiar with all your options now. And be sure to check with folks other than your family banker (where you carry all your accounts) - you'd be surprised how much price / term shopping can save you on each deal, especially early in your process. Once you find the right fit, it's best to stay with that relationship, but when you're getting started, recommend putting in some legwork to find the best option.
Best of luck to you and I look forward to following your journey!

Welcome, @David Decker! Well, you're going to be one to watch over the next few years...your mindset and planning is inspiring, for sure.
I second @Jason Ray Richardson advice - it will probably save you time and money in the long run if you focus on a niche in REI. Just like in your apparel business, I'm sure you had to drill down into a target market to create product lines that would be successful, same with real estate. Sometimes more is just more.
Best of luck to you and keep us posted on your journey - 14,998.5 units to go!

Welcome, @Yoav Hougui! Sounds like you've got a good head on your shoulders and are doing all the right things to educate yourself on the industry.
As Sandro noted, the podcast features "favorite real estate book" and "favorite business book" with each guest - that's a great place to pick up new recommendations. And so glad you're already plugged into the podcast - it's still a huge source of education and inspiration to me!
Best of luck and keep us posted on your journey!
