Researching markets is a good thing. Texas, for example, has a wide range of all types of real estate investing. 

It's good to consider all the financial aspects.  Texas has so many markets, and taxes vary by location. Something to consider is the market and overall investment return. 

It's good to run numbers both ways and consider your long-term goals!

Good idea expanding your investing goals outside of your state.  You still might consider Texas since it has so many of the things you are looking for!
