Just curious - why would the landlord be held liable if a tenant commits a sex offense ?
my ex tenant was picked up for smoking pot - I wasn’t held liable for that.

@Matthew Crivelli I am not charging her for the time she’s not there. But she’s putting me on hold and I can’t rent it to somebody else until she makes up her mind.

I posted that my apartment in NYC was rented ( paperwork) Four days after she moved in  the ceiling fell because of roof work being done.

the landlord has asked her to move out for an undetermined amount of time (2-6 weeks.)

 she is demanding her money back -  security deposit plus last month rent . I already returned this month‘S rent to her for the time she has to be away .

She’s saying she’ll give it to me again if she moves back in .
But If more than 2 weeks she won’t move back .
Do I give her money back until I know what she’s doing?

also , If I return it, her furniture is there .
should I charge her for storage during the time she is away ?

Appreciate any thoughts/ advice since renting out my apt . is a new situation for me, especially in light of unforeseen ceiling damage.

@Joe Splitrock
Actually I just found out you are exactly right!

landlord is required to reimburse rent based on number of days not permitted to be in apartment.

My rent-controlled apartment in Manhattan is being re- bricked

outside and the walls are crumbling . landlord said it’s a health hazard to stay , and asked me to leave for 7 to 10 days but not providing a hotel or an alternative space .
can they do that legally ?

Anybody can sue anyone for
anything . I have the impression you’ve done everything right , so I don’t think you should have any worries.
