Im in the Bronx. Just screen your potential tenants properly and you should be good. If you arent handy, contractors in NY are really expensive.

@greg bohn I would be careful with that idea. My main concern would be living in such close quarters if the people renting the rooms turned out to be dead beats. But what you want to do is deffinately attainable. Also I am pretty sure most people buying with FHA or other low money down are not living rent free. I could be wrong but I dont see it. Your contribution to the mortgage would deffinately be cheaper than if you payed rent though.

Raul, I have been able to find apartments that the board will allowed to be rented out, but the maintenance fees are a killer. Add a mortgage to that and I really cant understand how people can afford to buy anything in riverdale.

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone here has invested in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. I know it is a good and safe area but the monthly maintenance fees are pretty high. Just wondering if anyone here has invested in the area and what is working or not working for them.

@Ceasar Rosas I know about the developement and convienience to the city from the first few stops on the 6 from Manhattan but I am not sure what soundview has to offer that far up on the line as far as the new investment boom in the Bronx. Also, the 2 fams there are not cheap and do need some work. Being that the area isnt great confuses me because thats alot of money to live in a lower end neighborhood that is kind of out of the way of the so called gentrification of the hunts point and lower parts of the borough.

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a multi family in the soundview section. Preferably on the westchester ave side. I have always loved the big houses with garages there but when I lived there it was kind of considered a high crime area. Just wondering what peoples thoughts or experiences are.

Would you mind telling us names of these grants or programs in NY @Jena Pilgrim. Thanks.

Yes. Most 2 families are going for what you offered. I have been looking in the Bronx for a while now and its tough. I would make an offer based on how much your mortgage would be vs how much your monthly rent roll and operating expenses are.

I personally would go with the lower taxes. Taxes never go down but they will go up. Atleast if you spend 450k on a house the chances are pretty good that it will appreciate. So you will have a house that is worth more than you paid and the taxes will be less than 20k.
