I'd love to try and fill in the blanks for you but the Tampa Bay market can vary from street to street. This is true for both rental rates and property value.

$150k-$180k is more of a Pasco County price range for a decent area. That should put you into an duplex/triplex in decent neighborhood.

I'm in St Pete but work Pasco a lot. The good thing about Pasco is lower price points than Pinellas County. 

Oh, and yes, here's a couple things most books and courses don't mention... real estate investing is stressful - even when you know what you're doing, and you can lose every dollar you have if you make the wrong investment decisions.

Hello Nick, how soon are you looking to buy? Properties sell in a matter of hours here in Tampa Bay. These days it is too competitive to limit yourself to a couple zip codes. You have to take the deals where and when they come, or you may find yourself on the sidelines indefinitely.

There are plenty of areas in Florida where $300k will work with house hacking and/or airbnb strategies will work.

Speaking with a lender now won't hurt. If may help you narrow your focus once you know what you can buy.

I'd check with a local agent. It won't cost you anything. Just be up front and tell the agent your timeline for buying.

You county property appraiser's website should let you search by address.

Do not hesitate to invest some of it in RE and/or multi family education. Start in the BP bookstore (no I don't work for BP lol) You'l learn what to do with your money and how to get your first deal.
