Again, networking is key. I am taking about 25 business cards with me to hand out to other investors. I will be talking with everybody that I can on the breaks, before the class and after the class.  I will probably find a buyer that I can sell my wholesales to and probably some newer investors that I can purchase properties from.

Network, Network, Network

Yeah she convinced me to go on Saturday to.  I have to hand it to her, she knows her stuff and she does a good job at helping newbies understand it well.  Tuesday was a lot more motivating, Saturday was a good day but long and some stuff didn't necessarily apply to everyone.

Nonetheless I learned a great deal both days and I look forward to other meetings in the future.  Including yours as well Rick if I can get another weeknight off soon.  :)

He will not have a pretty notebook or folder or fancy materials, but it is just as good investment advice from someone who is rehabbing.

Don't get taken in by the hype. If you do you will be spending hundreds of dollars every weekend on some sort of seminar from all kinds of people.

Thank You Rick,

That's some good advice.  I was skeptical of her workshop on Saturday for the possible sales pitches. If all goes well though I can attend the meeting tomorrow night, so please be sure to say hello if I'm there, or if I spot you first I will introduce myself.  :)

Any other fellow San Antonio investors heading to the SAREIA this coming week to see Vena Jones Cox speak?  I know she is speaking on Tuesday Night February 2nd at 6 PM, and then having a workshop on Saturday the 6th starting at 9 am.

I've heard some good things about her, and since I have not yet attended an event with this association yet I'm going to check it out on Tuesday for sure.  Not sure about the workshop but we will see how Tuesday goes first.

I would imagine there may be a sales pitch or two, but other than that anyone else have good experiences with Vena's work or the SAREIA in general?

Love the responses, thanks everyone!

Socialism?  I'm not even going there, it's a fun board game as most who have responded agree with.  I have never met anyone who thinks the board game is a replica of real life, heck even the board game "Life" isn't even close to the world we live in.  It's just about having fun, and I for one as a new investor find that it gives me even further motivation to get out there and make things happen.

Sometimes that's what it's all about, having fun while doing what we love.  Doesn't mean we don't take our investing seriously, or think we are going to get out of jail for $50.  ;)

I'm a little bit biased, to be fair, but I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with that...

Furthermore, a political agenda is revealed by the notion that you can just pay a little money to get out of jail.

The premise that your real estate success depends on a role of the dice is additional condemnation of the game. You don't stumble upon deals through dumb luck, for the most part, you MAKE DEALS in situations wherein the cards say there is no deal.

The game has a flagrantly radical, and borderline socialist, bias.

Children under 18 should not be allowed to play without supervision.

(Yes, I'll own it -- Accusations like that, made against board games of all things, are what happens when nerds major in PolSci and then get careers in the financial services sector...)

LoL I think your taking it a little to seriously, but your points are appreciated nonetheless.  And for the record I hardly consider the cash flow I get out of those who land on park place and boardwalk to be lousy by any means.  ;)

This might sound a little silly but I was wondering if anyone else saw the traditional Monopoly board game as somewhat educational and maybe even a bit motivational for real estate investing?

I played the game tonight for the first time in years and while it's always been one of my favorite board games I can truly understand it even better now looking at it from an REI point of view.

Sure it's just a board game and isn't completely realistic but buying properties, and houses, hotels, etc., makes me yearn for the real thing even more.  :)

Post: Selecting a farm area for wholesaling in San Antonio

I'm new to investing and I want to begin as a birddog/wholesaler, preferably wholesaling.  I'm doing a lot of research, learning and also ready to take action.  Any advice on choosing a farm area here in the San Antonio area?

Are there good opportunities to wholesale in surrounding cities like Kerrville, Boerne, etc., or is San Antonio metro the place to be?

I'm also near San Antonio, welcome!

Terrific thread!  I'm new here and haven't even begun investing yet.  Is there hope though for newbies who would love to be having the success you are someday?

I would think the answer is yes because even you started with no experience at one point, but it's nice to hear encouragement. :)

Welcome Jason, we have similar situations living near San Antonio and currently working in manufacturing.

This is a great website and forum, there is such an abundance of information that will help you in your goals.

I look forward to staying in touch with the locals and perhaps helping eachother out some day.
