@Jeremy Hunter Aloha! Thank you so much for the welcome, the encouragement, and the advice. I'm definitely understanding that building connections/networking with others is crucial in this business. I'm really grateful to be a part of a platform that encourages collaboration between everyone with all levels of experience and knowledge.

I'll definitely continue to do my research and learn what I can about the moves that I can make now and in the future.

Hopefully you got to do everything you wanted to while living here, theres a lot to miss I'm sure. I've been to Utah and really enjoyed SLC and Park City. I have family that moved out to Sandy years ago but I haven't made out to visit there yet. I'd love to learn more about Utah and have my sights set on what I may be able to achieve out there. Looking forward to networking with you too so do get in touch anytime!

@Naftali Tolibas Thank you so much for the welcome to BP! I'm sure you miss some things about Oahu but hopefully your new beginning in AZ has been a great one so far. I agree, it's definitely a crazy expensive market here and so learning from those that have and continue to succeed will be invaluable.

On another note, I do plan to develop at least one of my properties in northern AZ at some point so I'm keeping an eye on and learning about the market out there, specifically the Phoenix and Flagstaff area.

Definitely get in touch anytime, especially when you visit so we can meet for coffee/tea and best wishes out there!

@Daniel Lee Thank you so much for the welcome and the kind words! My children are definitely the reason why I strive to be better and do better every day.

Congratulations to you and your wife for fulfilling that lifelong dream! That’s wonderful and so very exciting. It would be a dream for me too. I know I’ve got quite a bit to learn and like you said, with planning it’s achievable.

I lived in San Diego and Long Beach for a short time growing up and visited LA briefly then too. I do miss CA, moreso Yosemite National Park. Fortunately, the flight to/from CA is just 5 hours and can be affordable so visiting is doable for all of us that get drawn back there from time to time.

I’d definitely want to keep in touch so please let me know of the best way(s) to get in touch with you. Wishing you and your wife all the best!

@Brandon Turner, ALOHA! Thank you so much for welcoming me. Hoping you (and your family) are still making the best of your time out here with the weather lately. I'm constantly listening to BP podcasts (even if its a 1.5x the speed while driving, cleaning, etc. so that I can listen to as much possible lol). Also, one of the books you authored is actually the first REI book that I just started reading right now as a newbie.

Yes, I'd love to attend a meet up before you head off island so I'll definitely create that alert. It’ll be great to meet the person behind the voice.

Thank you so much for everything that you, the rest of the BP team, and all the BP members have provided/contributed for all of us to learn and grow from, its truly invaluable. Enjoy the rest of your trip out here!

@Duc Ong Thank you so much for the welcome! I know, I'm definitely looking forward to utilizing the VA loan. Hopefully by then, I'll have found a great deal. :-) I'd love to meet up for coffee/tea and chat about REI. Learning from those with experience would be so ideal. Let me know the best way to get in touch and I'm looking forward to meeting up!

Aloha Everyone,

Thank you so much for setting this up on the Windward side @David Pere since I too live in Kailua. I'm still really new to REI and this will be my very first meetup. I'm excited to finally step out of my comfort zone of scouring BP for knowledge, getting started on REI and business books, as well as listening to podcast and webinars every chance I get. Its definitely a start for me and my journey into REI...

Looking forward to meeting you (all) and have a great day!

Hafa Adai, Aloha, and Hello Everyone!

My name is Jonita Ovalles-Pecjo (hyphenated with my biological father's name who died a few weeks before I was born and my step-dad that raised me until I was 15), but most know me simply as Jae. I'm originally from the Pacific Island of Guam but currently living on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. I'm a mom of 4 (two boys: almost 19 and almost 17, two girls: both turned 12 and 10 in March). I grew up in Guam as well as California since my step-dad was in the US Navy. The year after graduating from high school, I became young spouse (and mom) to a service member of the US Air Force that lasted for 15 years. I'm extremely grateful that 14 of those years were spent living (in Germany, Okinawa, and England) and exploring as many foreign countries as possible. I then joined the Hawaii Air National Guard in 2014 as an older gal and continue to serve humbly as a drill status guardsman.

My interest in REI developed when I was in my early 20's and wanting to secure something that I could pass down to my child/ren. So, while stationed in Okinawa in 2003, I thought that purchasing a raw piece of land in southern Oregon (Why Oregon? Because it was close enough to family in NorCal and the state didn't have any sales tax.) would be a good move. I was young and eager to own a piece of our planet! As well as purchasing another raw piece of land on Hawai'i Island a few years ago with intentions to build on it. Both of those were sold recently. Fortunately, I have held onto the 2 pieces of raw land that will be payed off in a few months (via owner financing) in northern Arizona that I plan to develop on one day.

My journey to BP actually began last October, when I was trying to find information and resources about REI but I didn't sign-up or anything because I was busy working on my professional massage therapy license and starting a new job in admin. Then, I came across it again just this past March with even more determination and decided to sign-up as a basic member at first. Since then, I've been listening to podcasts non stop, browsing through forums, reading tons of BP articles, and scouring around for reading material (REI & business books). I finally became a pro member a few days ago (due to the constant drive that continues to fuel my passion for wanting to do what many other BP members are aspiring to do/are already doing and thats to build a passive income). My "Why" is because I want to continue to be an active mom in my children's lives (more specifically...not to miss school events, milestones, and just spending time with them), to be able to leave something behind for them (and future generations) that they can build on/take over if they want, and to continue to fulfill my wanderlust as much as possible.

So far, a part of my plan is to utilize my VA loan or an FHA loan to secure my first (small) multi-family home to buy and hold here on Oahu. Since, I can't access my VA loan for another few years, don't have enough capital at the moment (actively working on that now), and haven't found anyone to partner up with/figured out a creative financing strategy just yet...I do commit to investing my time in learning, reading, and listening to as much as I can possibly absorb every single day in the mean time. Although my first investment property will more than likely be here on Oahu (as crazy expensive as the market is), I'm also interested in Guam, Northern California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Arizona since those are some of the places that I've either lived in or visited. It's a start but theres no limit for me on where I would like to invest. If the numbers work and theres a reliable team in place...I'll be good to go. I'm just getting starting on the idea of networking (haven't met up with anyone or any groups yet) for a chance to learn from others and contribute what I can, however I can.

My apologies for the extensive intro, I do enjoy typing and I'm a very detail oriented person (yikes). Thank you so much for your patience and taking the time to read my mini novel-like intro. Please feel free to reach out anytime! I'm really looking forward to this life changing experience and wishing you all the very best on your/our REI journey.

Kindest Regards,

Jonita (Jae)
