Hi.  I'm in Manhattan and have worked with a gentleman.  He said it was ok to share his info with you.  I'll send you a PM.

Did you contact the local tax assessor?  http://middletownship.com/departments/assessor/

Recently saw a post, can't remember where, from someone who had a furnished rental that they made available to a family that lost their home in a fire.  They were planning to repair their home and return to it so they were looking for a 6-12 mo temporary location.

I recall the poster said that the insurer agreed to pay twice the regular rent because...they would have had to pay for housing as well as furniture rental costs anyway.  So, to them it was a bargain.

Have to admit to being a little green... Green with envy that is.  Congratulations on two successes.  And may you and your team have many more.

By the way, how did you and your team meet?  Were you acquainted before you got started?  If so, what prompted you to get together and go for it?

Thanks for sharing.

I agree with previous posters.  The training you'll get from an experienced uncle is invaluable.  And with time, you'll become more valuable to the whole operation.  In the end, this isn't worth hindering your relationship with your uncle over.  You don't realize how valuable the perspective of one who has done it is.  So many of us out here are still trying to find someone to show us the ropes and teach us the game all while trying not to get taken or learn bad habits.

Consider giving uncle a bigger piece of the pie because you really aren't equals.  Also consider crunching the #s and see if he'll agree to a flat % return on your investment. This way you'll know exactly what you'll get on the other end.  And you can contribute as much time and energy as is needed to increase your knowledge.

In the end, if your uncle sees you gaining knowledge and skills and becoming important to a successful operation, he'll likely be more willing to split a deal with you as time goes forward.

Welcime. You're not alone.  My story is similar.  I figured I'd rather spend $20-$50 on a property.  I like the BP site and community.  The podcasts, tools, blogs and forums are informative and entertaining. There's always something new to learn or a new idea to research. Good luck in your new endeavor.
