@Scott Elder lots of great spots these guys talked about. Plaza, Crossroads, The Nelson Atkins Museum is AWESOME! Brookside has some great shops and eating options. There are a lot of different areas in KC that work well for rentals, I think Nick and Andrew already nailed those. If we can help further, let us know!
