I have a list of the book through show 120, just title and author.  I removed the duplicates, so just from looking at the list you can't tell how popular they are.  I will try to keep it up to date at least for a while.

I strongly second the option of going to the library.  If you local public library doesn't have a book, they can likely borrow it from another library through interlibrary loan.  (Yes, a librarian here talking).

Thanks @Brandon Turner for the interesting webinar, definitely something to think about

For a landlord who self manages, what happens when you are out of town for vacation or travel for work, or whatever? I'm thinking about getting into REI as a buy and hold locally, and figure at least initially I would end up self managing. However, I do occasionally end up on a business trip for my day job, and I try to visit my folks out of state a couple of times a year.

Do you have another number you have them call in case of an emergency?  If so, who do have them call?

Thanks :-)

@Garrett Pearson you're just down the road. As someone still trying to do my homework to decide if I want to get into REI, I'm finding BP a great place to learn (though a bit overwhelming at times). Hope to see you around the forums.

Yeah, I'm still a fairly clueless student.  I keep hearing terms thrown around and aren't sure where to go learn what they mean.  Probably the one that I'm most confused about is hearing people rank neighbourhoods (A,B etc).  What's a good place to start to learn some of the lingo?

Thanks much :-)

Schaumburg is a little north of me, but I don't mind the occasional drive.

Hi @David Stefanovic,

I'm a newbie from not too far down the road.  I'm definitely enjoying lurking on the forum and learning what I can.  Hope to see you round BP.

Hey thanks for asking about this.  As another newbie, the talk of a new housing bubble is making me wonder.

As a someone just starting to investigate the possibilities of real estate, I'm still learning to filter out the media noise from what is actually important.  I keep seeing general articles that there just isn't the supply, especially for starting homes, which is driving prices up and making it hard for people to buy homes.  Is this really the case, or am I just in a more expensive area than some?

By chance I drove by a cute house on a simi-major street last night. When I got home I looked it up on the MLS. Based on the listing description, it has an in-law apartment with a separate entrance and kitchen. Having not seen the house yet, I'm guessing the 'apartment' is a 1 bed / 1 bath, with living area and small kitchen. As I haven't seen the house at this point, I do not know the relation between the two parts. I also do not know if it is zoned for a duplex. Especially being the house seems to be overpriced at this point, I do not know if it is worth pursuing any further or not. I would also have to consider adding A/C to the building. Idea would be for me to convert the house into a duplex and house-hack, living in the smaller apartment for a few years.

At this point, I'm still trying to figure out my exact niche and area, so I'm kinda all over the place.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks.
