Post: Things that make you stop and double take...Chickens!?

Hello all! I hope this brings a good laugh for everyone as it did for me. I have never seen this in the description for a home. It was talking about being a Duplex converted into a SF, but could be converted back. It looks like a nice comfortable home....then the last line I saw this "Large backyard is fully fenced, with space for gardening and chickens, which can be included in the sale."

Not dogs, or children or anything like that...CHICKENS! I had to ask my agent, in play, how I would go about pitching that to investors. Well, we would need $XX for the home sale, $XX for repairs and to convert back to duplex....oh and $XX for the chickens! haha.

There is a tension breaking laugh for your Friday! Have a great weekend all.

Please comment and share if you have other things that totally caught you off guard like that.

Oh man! I am terribly sad to say I will not be able to make it tonight after all.... Now seeing SO many responses I am SURE I am missing out BIG time. We have a multifamily BBQ that the wife signed us up for and was not aware that it was confirmed until last night!
I hope to still connect with many new faces that have come into this post. Lots of people I did not know from the Portland and Vancouver area.

Have a great time my fellow investors!! Hoping for another meetup in the near future that I can actually make it to!

Thank you for starting this thread Addiel Flores.

I currently have magnets on my cars (mine and the wife), but have not had any calls yet. I used my company name, a nice little house logo and used my company slogan "Solutions for your situation".
I think that was a little too vague though. No calls in the first month. I was looking on here for ideas and came across your post. You got a call...so that is some hope for me. Thank you.
I am having them made bigger and adding some "We buy houses" to it.

Anyone have any ideas as to another phrase for the other side though? I want it to encompass a variety of RE situations, but not using the "Real Estate" words as that seems to carry a bit of a used car salesmen feel for some reason. I was thinking "Help with foreclosures" but not sure if I really want to get involved too much with that area. Any thoughts as to another simple phrase for that other corner?

Thank you!

Great thinking Mathew! I am fairly new to RE investing and had not even thought about those. We have quite a few all the way down the river into Milwaukie area as well. I used to deliver Pizza to some house boats and they look really nice. I have to add my own two cents though...in the summer time...the spiders down by the river are HUGE....and I had a couple of times where I had to decide to battle critters to deliver pizza or go back to my car and have dinner. haha. I know, not really a selling point on a house...but personally I would never live in one for that simple reason.

Keep us posted if you decide to try it out though! It still sounds like it would be a nice niche to get into if it turns out to be the "cash cow" situation.

You are welcome Philip Sample. Glad I could provide something useful for you. As far as finding good REIA in your area, I just hopped on Google and put in "REIA Portland" and checked out what was in my area. You may have to check out a few to find your match. I actually happened to connect to an old friend that turned out to be President of the board for one in my area....it's amazing the connections you make when you start getting out there.

I also would suggest creating an account on http://www.linkedin.com/. Then you can start connecting to people you may already know. That is how I found my guy. Bigger pockets OBVIOUSLY is another amazing resource to find people in your area. Add a "key word alert" for your local city and maybe a few around you. Also add one for ex: Rochester REIA or Minnesota REIA, or another major city in your area. It may be a little like fishing. Just put as many lines in the water and see what happens.

If you are still having a hard time, let me know and maybe my family member from Minnesota might know something. I am just not sure how connected to the industry they are anymore. They have not done RE things in quite some time.

Hope this helps. (Sorry for the late night ramble. haha)

Welcome Philip! I have family from Minnesota.

I am also on the line of bird dog, but also building a great network of people to tie everything together later down the road.
I strongly suggest finding a local REIA and going to visit. Most will let you "visit" maybe for a small fee (ours is $10).
I had heard to do that here on BP for so long...so I did last week and already connected with an old friend that offered to hire me as a bird dog, then latter turn into mentor. Since taking that first step it has given me the motivation and excitement to really get out there. Education is KEY, but eventually you have to get out and test the waters, or at least start meeting people...even if you don't know anyone, meet people, or even listen to people's conversations. I learned a lot about using Blueberry bushes as hedging...who knew!?

The point is BP will teach you about the industry, but REIA and mentors can apply the knowledge to YOUR specific area. Every area is different, so you need to find out what works for you and in your region.

You for sure are FAR beyond many people by being here and getting your intro post out there. Great job on that! Now keep getting your name and face out there (here on BP, and in your area) and you are sure to start making the right connections.

Welcome Heidi.

I am up the Portland area as well and I like your focus.
You mentioned wanting to improve the area out on the coast there.
That has to be my favorite part of investing in RE.
Being able to help people as well as improving the commuinity.

Keep us posted on any places you pick up out there.
My wife and I enjoy that part of the coast for our vacation get always. (She mostly likes the outlet malls down there. haha)
