@Paul B.   Big players are certainly getting ready to pounce.  I think owners should probably be thinking about reducing the lengths of the options the are selling on commercial properties right now.

If it was reduced to 5 markets I would be buying options on raw land in all of them.  It is common for those options to be 6-12 months.  Raw land options are also fairly cheap.

All this talk about paying off your home mortgage might distract people from what they should do first.  This should not even be considered unless they have ZERO higher interest debt and a reserve fund for emergencies.

Home mortgage debt is one of the cheapest kinds you can have.

The Chinese have lots of methods to cause problems.  They could decide to drive up the scrap steel price.  That would hurt US steel companies.  Since they export very little steel to the US they could simply lower the price to other markets even lower.  That would help manufactures in other countries and hurt US manufactures.

@Bart H.  Sorry... I was not clear.  I was agreeing.  He has been free trade and said the trade war was a bad idea in the last week.

But now his boss disagrees.

@Bart H.   He has been in the past including in the last week.  It will be interesting to see if Trump does a complete turn around.

In the last 24 hours the Chinese have made it clear how hard they will play.  They started a rumor they might ban the export of rare earth minerals to the US.

In Texas... it is much more clear.  People's stuff is generally put on the curb the day the locks are changed.  If they get it they get it.  Generally the vultures are circling to get the stuff.

Of course, it is going to be hard to find an economist to say trade wars are good and easy to win.

@Bart H.   I do not like him because he was wrong about the "internet economy" (tech bubble) and the "decisive war" (Iraq)  and the "Bush miracle" (Great Recession).

Also he is not an economist.  His major was not economics in college and he certainly does not have a PhD in Economics.

What is next... Judge Judy to head a commission on Tort Reform?  Jerry Springer to head a commission on Domestic Violence?
