Hi Taz,

I work with vacation rental homeowners to get them guaranteed income & professional management, so I'd be happy to answer any questions. Just also got back from the VRMA Eastern Seminar (although I'm not a property manager), and now is a really great time to get involved in the industry!

Parakeet, Kaba Oracode, Kwikset, PointCentral, & ResortLock by Lockstate are all great options.

Definitely lots of good news for vacation home owners! Unfortunately they didn't really delve into listing sites & which ones are the most effective, @Eric DeGray! It will also largely depend on your property & the type of guest you're looking to attract. Is your home near your in Massachusetts?

Hi Cody,

I just got back from the Vacation Rental Managers Association Eastern Seminar in Atlanta, and there was a lot of discussion on how property managers should and can grow their businesses.

My company's CEO also moderated a talk on recruiting new homeowners with Dave Angotti from SmokyMountains.com, Steve Presley from iTrip, and Rodney Archer from Vacations on the Water, and they spoke a lot on the importance of establishing strong relationships with local relators, offering fixed rent contracts, using owner referral programs, etc.

Here's a slide from one of the presentations that might be of help:

My company likewise offers help and resources for property managers to grow their businesses, so I'd be happy to talk further if you have any questions!

Hi guys!

I just returned from the VRMA (Vacation Rental Managers Association) Eastern conference that was held here in Atlanta, and there was some really great information shared!

I got to learn more about how property managers are recruiting new homeowners, and Tyann Marcink gave a great talk on real estate/vacation rental photography best practices. Bill Furlong from HomeAway also spoke on trends in the vacation rental industry, and here were some interesting statistics:

  • 78% of vacation rental buyers consider potential rental income when purchasing the home.
  • 77% of vacation home purchasers in 2013 said they planned to rent out their home to short term renters.
  • One third of vacation rental guests are first time vacation rental travelers.
  • More than half of vacation rental travelers are 25-44.

Other general trends that HomeAway/VRBO saw:

  • "The rate of vacation home purchases had a banner year."
  • "Bookings per unit and dollars per booking are up. Cancellation rate is down, and cancel lead time is up."
  • "Vacation rental awareness, trial, & overall usage continues to grow rapidly."

If anyone has any questions about the conference or likewise attended, I'd love to talk! :)
