Kristi, it can be a really good investment if you (or your property manager) are proactive & treat it like a business. Where are the two homes? The biggest thing right now is making sure the homes are compliant with local short-term rental regulations.

@Aqeel Salim have you considered fixed rent arrangements with property managers? They'd buy out your weeks in advance to sell to their guests, so there's no commission and no risk to homeowners.

Hi @Tobey Porter,
It's a great area to invest in a vacation rental, and our company actually looked into buying a company home there!
How often do you think you'd be using the property? That will definitely impact how much you can expect to make from it.
If you have any homes you're interested in & want to see a rental income projection, let me know. I'm also happy to connect you with a property manager in the area if you're interested.

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share some info on how my company is helping investors get guaranteed, passive income.
Rented.com was recently named one of the Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Georgia by the Technology Association of Georgia, we won PhoCusWright's Travel Innovation award, and we just won the People's Choice Award in the Lion's Den at ARDA’s Global Timeshare event, and I'm hoping our new approach to finding property managers can help you.
My company works with investors (for free) to help them find, compare, and choose property managers for second homes (specifically vacation homes, short term rentals, corporate rentals, etc.).
Property managers compete in the marketplace with their lowest commissions or with offers of guaranteed or fixed rental income.
For example, we recently helped an owner secure a guaranteed $37,000 per year on a $200,000 Palm Springs home. You can read how we did that here.
We're also currently operating in 17 countries, 38 states, and over 300 cities.
If anyone has any questions about the marketplace, I'd love to chat. It's completely free to compare offers, and there's no obligation to accept.
Thank you!

Hi Simen,
What type of home are you renting out? I work with vacation rentals, and I've definitely seen good pictures and staging go really far when making a difference in inquiries and bookings (up to ~40% more inquiries!!). Tyann Marcink is a really incredible photographer, and she has some great tips about staging and photography on her blog and elsewhere. Might be worth looking into her work.

Albert, have you seen this company? They use social group bookings to maximize revenue for larger homes.
Like @Jeff Graves said, Facebook ads would likely also do well, and that gives you a chance to inexpensively test your messaging & audiences.
