Jon Bachman I use Angliss & Colohan PC. They are in Rocky Hill. David and Michael are the partners, extremely knowledgable and deal with a lot of real estate investors so good insight when picking their brain about what other investors do. Highly recommend to anyone in CT looking for a CPA. If you reach out to them let them know I sent you!

Matt Oehlsen I use Angliss & Colohan PC. They are in Rocky Hill though so maybe out of your range. David and Michael are the partners, extremely knowledgable and deal with a lot of real estate investors so good insight when picking their brain about what other investors do. They also don't charge $300 an hour! Highly recommend to anyone in CT looking for a CPA. If you reach out to them let them know I sent you!!

Welcome to BP Ida Grochowska ! I am also a landlord living in Hartford county. Feel free to reach out of you have any questions. Highly recommend the Bigger Pockets podcasts, amazing information from real investors. I have yet to attend a meet up in the area as I just recently started actively participating in BP but have a goal to go to at least one within a month. You should get to one too! Looking forward to talking further, Phelim

Hey Xavier Knight, there is a lot of information out there and it can be intimidating. I started in Bridgeport also. The way I got in was to buy a multi family house using an FHA owner occupy loan. I only had to put down 3.5% down. You have to find a property that can pay the higher monthly payment + Private Mortgage Insurance but it gets you in the door and starting your life as a real estate investor. If you have 20% to put down plus closing costs then good for you, do that instead, but if your low on funds and looking to get in the game this was very beneficial to me. Owner occupying the property helps get the FHA loan plus you can live rent free if you find the right property and if you house hack (rent with a roommate) you'll make even more money. Feel free to reach out to me and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have!

Thank you @Paul Timmins for the welcome! I will definitely look into the REIA club meetings and new BP book. Do you attend any close to the Mass-CT border? Like Springfield or anything? Just looking to see if there's a common one we may meet up at some time.

All the best,

Phelim

@Filipe Pereira Yes, My partner and I currently manage our own properties. At 9 units and having a partner it hasn't been bad. It also helps that by now we have placed all our current tenants ourselves and have ensured we only accepted very good quality tenants. We have only had problems with two tenants over the course of the past 4 years and they both were tenants we inherited when we bought the properties!

I'd happy to talk more about my land lording experience if you have any more questions, ask away!
