It depends on the Realtor, your traditional realtor will probably just be looking around the MLS, which you can get access to of course.

I would try and find a realtor that deals more on the investment side of things so you can gain access to their network and knowledge.

I completely understand, with your cousin here being a property manager, why not just start with single family and work your way up? Also, with 5+ units on one property you're dealing with additional laws and regulations. 

As far as the insurance goes, I can ask a couple people I know that deal with it, but I don't have an answer off the top of my head.

Hi Ali, to me an 8 unit building is a big project to take on as a first property, not saying it can't be done though. Do you have some sort of a team in place in Tampa that you can trust to be your boots on the ground? I personally don't deal much with multi-unit, but could definitely help you if you have questions regarding SFR in the Tampa area.
