Post: FEIN No. - Is it really needed?

Wondering - I have an LLC (single member) in state of IL. I would like to start investing, buying properties, etc. and transact with my LLC. Do I apply for an FEIN no. or do I just use my SS? From what I have read in the forums, I should keep my expenses, etc. separate so I want to open a Business checking account for my LLC and I am not sure if I should obtain the FEIN no. or just use my SS. I think I am getting confused since I was always told to purchase/transact with my LLC (not my name) for protection purposes and so that the "corporate veil could not be pierced" for legal matters. With this said, if I just use my SS, isn't this defeating the purpose? Thank you. Rose

@Jennifer Kinzle  I am also interested in through the Elgin area for investing. @Dan Gongora Could anyone suggest a local REIA to join for that area?

@Natalie Schanne  Thank you for the encouraging words. I will give it a try. Any suggestions for understanding the numbers better?  By the way, how's RE in NJ?  Any good areas for rental investments 😀?

As I have intended many times in the past, I would like to begin investing in RE. I have recently gone through a life changing event and realize that I better start soon. The problem is I am so fearful. Not even sure why?  Any suggestions on how to push myself to get moving?  I have done a lot of reading but truly my shortcoming is in the numbers. Is there any advice in particular to this area?  Thank you.

I will be attending.  Looking forward to the meetup.

I will be attending.  I know it will be a great networking and informational meeting.  See you soon.

The last event was great!  You did a great job and I really liked how we introduced ourselves at the beginning of the meeting.  This helped me to know who to speak with for my particular needs.  I look forward to this next meeting and will send you the info requested.

This was my first time at the meeting and it was a great networking session. I met like-minded people and got some great ideas. Thank you to @Brie Schmidt for setting up the event. Great Job! It was nice to meet you and @George Foster .

Hi Everyone

This is my first post. I have been reading/researching BiggerPockets for months and finally decided to "speak." I live in the Chicagoland area and have done one investment thus far. I like the idea of networking with others to help with the process. I am a Broker and also have experience in property management. My goal is to find which niche will work best for my situation - rentals, multi-family, wholesale, or private lending.

I always thought I would like to fix and hold but I have heard many horror stories about landlording. Should I truly be afraid??

I would also like to meet others in the Chicagoland area who want to network. Also, thanks for all your great posts!
