@John Hickey I like that last sentence. I am thinking about web design as a trade to network with investors (maybe be the go to guy for websites). I am learning from books how to approach real estate, but won't know till I truly do it. Only debt I have is student loan and maybe getting a different job or career change can increase my salary getting me debt free faster.

@John Hickey Hey John. Thank you for the reply. The event I went to was not a BP event. I just found one on Meetups.com and most of them will ask you for money for them to teach you their "secrets" . My area in NYC Zip 10040 are more for commercial complex buildings. Selling around 1.4 million. I am looking out away from the big city since I am just a small fish that is trying to learn. One thing that Raul mentioned was adding value like web design. Now i am thinking of learning this and trying to see if i can help with investors webpages.

@Raul R.  Thank you. Out of frustration of my last meet up (which was not a bigger pockets meet up) I registered to this event already, and others as well. I always thought everyone can do research which is why i never thought of it. I am tri-lingual as well and just realized after your post lol. I graduated with Economics, but I do not really know what value I can bring to investors when I never really learned real world real estate market trends. Hope to see you at the meetup, it will be great to speak with you and others. You just lit another fire under me, need to learn a trade.

@Raul R. thank you for your perspective. Did not realize that I sounded like that. I really just wanted to have an open meet up where people would like to hang out and converse with each other. You are right as well. I don't bring much to the table, but at the same time I am trying to find that out by reaching out.

Hello Bigger Pockets Family. I am pretty pisst off at some real estate workshops/events I have gone to in NYC. These so called "free" events are nothing more than people trying to get into your pockets (i.e. pay  and we will show you how). Therefore, I would like to know if anyone is interested in meeting up at some bars in NYC where we can learn from each other and network.

A little about me. I am a newbie at real estate. I am currently trying to pay off my student debt so that I can save up for a down payment on a future house. I have a whole list of books I am reading, and started learning how to look for deals in NYC/NJ/YONKERS ( which is pretty difficult).

If anyone has some ideas about meet up locations we can do in NYC or bars we can hang out at after work, it will be great. Looking forward to learning from this big family, and hopefully we can be the next best thing in the real estate market.

Please add me as a friend or send me a message in my inbox. Us newbies have to surround ourselves around people that are doing great things! so thank you in advanced.

@Michael Swan The Dave Ramsey approach before getting into real estate is the best. I am paying down my SL debt now but at least i will have financial foundations to help me get into real estate without having to worry about a stupid SL payment!

@Wayne Brooks Exactly what I was thinking. They are trying to prey on the hopes of people. They were advocating that putting a chunk of your mortgage on a credit line at 21% can save more on interest than paying the mortgage itself. They also said " the wealthy use this system". The wealthy do not really get into debt with 21% interest!

@Philip Williams That is the same thing i was thinking in my head when he said that. I looked into it after and it is called Velocity banking. Yet, i do not think it is the smartest thing. Id rather take a low interest loan and pay it off with higher payments.
