My Bio
My name is Victor and I got fully invested in real estate about a year ago. I've always had an interest for the industry but never really had the opportunity to invest due to financial struggles or lack of other interested parties.
Luckily I found BP through podcasts and in my daily 2.5 hour commute, I treated BP like a school. I ingested as much as I could and decided to take the plunge.
I will be closing on my first duplex property this month, and as a first time investor and also being out of state, I must admit I am a little afraid.
This fear and the need to sooth my own thoughts helped me create my blog and this group...
Meeting Details
In front of the PF Changs there is a sitting area. We will meet there for introductions and discussions.
- No Sales Pitches
- Completely Free (Paid Parking $3 with validation)
Please keep in mind, this our first meeting and we are only here to establish an identity and learn as we go
A New Standard Meetup
The idea here is to create a community of first time investors, but more importantly, to be persistent in our journey to become financially free. This will become a meetup group that happens every other Wednesday evenings from 7pm to closing.
What is StartupREI?
Simply put, StartupREI was created to showcase my journey into the world of real estate with the intention of helping others to break their fears and jump into real estate investing feet first themselves.
Whether you suffer from analysis paralysis, trying to invest out of state or locally, or looking for single family homes or smaller multi-family, this community will help you see that the light at the end of the tunnel is much closer than it appears, and that your journey into REI is just beginning.
StartupREI will slowly develop a community of first time investors coming together to help one another get into real estate. We will stay connected with blog posts, upcoming interviews, a community wide slack channel, and more.
If you need a bit of inspiration, you can check out our blog at startuprei.com where my wife and I go through our weekly struggles of learning REI to try and become financially independent.
Parking
There is a parking structure in the galleria and nearby stores will validate. I believe parking comes out to $3.

@Sammy Lyon count me in! I'm actually starting a bi-weekly meetup in Sherman Oaks at the Galleria. Details will follow once I can secure it, but its going to focus on first time or early on investors either investing in local or out of state markets.
BTW, my Duplex went through ;) closing mid this month. Fingers crossed I'm not in over my head.
@Nathan Christensen
Congrats and good luck! I just got a duplex in Cleveland as my first and only deal so far (in escrow at the moment). I'm in CA and made the jump, I'm sure you'll be fine while you're there! Good luck!

So, is there a sign? There's a lot of people here and I
1) don't want to be lingering in earshot looking like a creep
2) wandering around aimlessly.

@Michael Noto thank you so much for taking the time to write all that! Even though my agent should know these steps, I want to be informed as well, so thank you!
I need to find a local lawyer in Ohio, or see if my agent is going to provide one (most likely but I'll still do my due diligence).

@Caleb Heimsoth
Owned? I assume you sold?
And yes, I've accounted for the water and sewer, my agent gave me data on it. He said $50, I put $100 on my calc

@Alex S.
It's currently occupied on both sides, enough to cover all expenses so I'm happy about that.
I accounted for very conservative numbers. The property does have work that needs to be done on the outside which I wasn't too thrilled about but 10 years from now I won't care.
