@Wesley W. Spot on. Cuomo and his cronies don’t care if people from “red” upstate leave because they weren’t going to vote for them anyway.

It’s a shame, actually.

I live in NY but invest out of state, both passively and actively.  I do have a few investments in NY but I'm done here until we get new management.  Population is shrinking and all the laws are in favor of the tenants.

I do both, however I retired on passive income from syndications.  I can't find better, safer returns anywhere.  You need to know what to look for, and invest with like-minded syndicators.  After that, the checks come and it's a beautiful thing.  Happy to chat if you want to PM me.

I invested in multifamily syndications.  Done properly, I get better returns and I truly believe it is much less risky than single family in just about any market.

I'm 58 and have built my retirement plan around multifamily syndication investing.  I believe that with the right deals, there is no place safer and certainly nothing can touch it for income.  I watched my parents have to withdraw from their IRAs to live when the market was down, and whatever wealth they had was decimated.  My only regret in life is that I didn't know about multifamily passive investing when they were alive.  I could have really helped them.

Class B, stabilized and cash-flowing in Texas and the Carolinas.  I've co-syndicated many, but not all, of them as well.

I've put a slide together that uses exact figures from two multifamily investments that hopefully will illustrate the power of the tax savings.  It's really what I mean when I say Keep More.  These are actual numbers from my financial life relative to two of my LP investments so far this year.  FILE HERE

Hopefully some will find it helpful and informative.

If you've stayed at your job no matter how long, there must be reasons, and I would list those out....the good things, and be grateful for them.  Then when the pain of staying outweighs the pain of leaving you will leave.  It sounds like you need a W-2 job right now to pay the bills, but remember that YOU are the CEO of your life, and only YOU can change your situation.  You are smart enough, and talented enough to figure it out, but it starts with a mindset.  The other advice I would give you is to live below your means, save as much as you can, and stay here and learn as much as you can.  Welcome to BP!

@Joseph Firmin

I’m a New Yorker who is NOT touching NY. It’s a landlord’s nightmare. After all, we are just evil capitalists taking advantage of the poor renters.

I have a 4-family in Brooklyn and a house upstate. I’m done, and now focused on passive multifamily in markets where people from the NE are moving.

@Dannielle O'Buckley I feel your pain. I live in NYC and have a place in Ulster County as well. People like me are why God made multifamily syndications. Truly passive, much less risky than single family, and all the tax write-offs. Done properly, I’ve not found a better real estate investment for where I am in my life. Lots of info here on BP and reach out if you think J can help.
