I would add to Ben's comment that the people who will rent in high-crime areas are not only people who don't have a choice but (quite possibly) people who will also engage in criminal activity.I agree with Lisa who champions for the low income/high quality tenant.

I own a boxing club, and one of my favorite quotes is on the wall of the gym:“A champion is someone that gets up when he can’t.”-  Jack Dempsey I just imagine how many situations that quote applies to, and how important that type of thinking is in terms of success. 

The basic position we called "associate" was ringing up customers, stocking shelves, cleaning, etc.

But that's the 1st amendment and I am a big constitutionalist so let freedom ring !

Often times the cashiers would ring me up and take 10% off my entire purchase without me having to ask or do anything, just because I bought so much and was there everyday.  

And if it turns out you've made a mistake on a tenant, the legislative headwinds make it very difficult to un-ring that bell and terminate that business relationship.
