Love the site, but. . .
the Search function is awful.
Let me again say that I really do love the site. It's great.
But, also again, searching is much too difficult. We don't have the option to search by title only, nor can we sort forum topics by number of replies. So when I search for "motivated sellers," I get 17 PAGES of results, 95% of which have NOTHING to do with motivated sellers but just happen to contain the words "motivated," and "seller" in the same thread.
The same issue applies to blogs. How do I find a blog dealing with short sales without spending an hour flipping through pages? There is no way to do this without having to swim through a bunch of completely irrelevant information.
I know I can be a bit brash, but I am going to say it again. Really love the site. But at some point, the time is going to come to rise to the next level, and it just can't be done by ignoring the importance of the search function and how difficult it is here.
I see it now, but have to scroll down all the way down to the very bottom of that list (forum home) to see it.
I usually just go to "my discussions" and "recent discussions".
Dont worry, I'll learn the easy ways soon enough.
I'm sorry, I have only been here for about a month so I can't really consider the long-term increase, it just seemed like the first week I was on here there would be dozens of new threads starting every day in the categories I watch a lot ('real estate basics->starting out' and 'real estate strategies->wholesaling forum') and now there aren't nearly as many. I'm running out of new reading material lol!
No harm Corey. Everything goes in waves, but things are definitely on an upward trend.
If you're running out of reading material, jump on our article directory, blogs, and official BiggerPockets blog. That should occupy you for a while ;)
Josh,
I was wondering if you could add just one more category to this forum? Maybe just create "Member's Vaults" or something like that because I really like to look at someone's houses on this forum.
I'm aware of members posting their own houses on their profile but it is nothing like Jon Holdman posting his pictures about this 70s house that he visited. It was hilarious to read that!

Great suggestion! We'll definitely add that . . . it'll be in the Advanced forum search page, which can be found right below the toolbar at the left of the page, that runs across the top of all pages (Forums Groups Properties).
I take it you're the webmaster here at BP.

All members can create their own photo galleries. You can upload all the pics you'd like and create different galleries for different properties.
Our main gallery page will allow you to preview the galleries of others: http://www.biggerpockets.com/galleries
There is a link to the left of the forums as well.

I don't remember hiring him. Another one bites the dust!
LOL people trying to take over your site Josh
That dude was just another SEO flunkie wasting everyone's time.
See I remember the good old days a couple years ago when I could read through AND respond to all the daily posts in an hour. Of course there were only 4,000 members back then.
Now it takes an hour or two just to scan the new posts. If I try to respond to everything I end up spending all day on here. Which I have to admit is fun, but I don't make much money doing that. :D
I remember those days too, Ryan. It was much easier keeping up with everything going on then. Moderation took a fraction of the time it takes now, as well.
I'm not going to complain, though.
BP rocked then, and rocks even harder now!
Sounds like some pirates have seized your site! lol
Josh, I work in IT and I don't really see anything close to that under occupations in the profile, can you add something (or even just an "other" category?)
also, I had to put in my company info to post in certain categories, so I put in the info for the company I work at (my regular job) is this what it's intended for? It seems more like it is intended for those members who have their own LLCs and such, but then does that mean anyone who does not have their "own" company cannot post in those categories?

For occupations, they are catered to real estate . . . that said, you can choose between investor, homeowner, renter and many other real-estate related categories. If we were to add every possible occupation, the list would be pretty long. We could probably add other, but I don't think there is much need, since everyone falls under one of the categories we've got. But - I'm open to thoughts . . .
As for companies required to post - that is only for the Bulk REO forum. The reason we require it is to ensure that those people posting in the category have some kind of verifiable business that others can look up. There are so many people in that space that are fraudsters and we make people jump through a few more hoops to have access.
This is an awesome site. Thanks for the time to put it together.
Thanks for the appreciation, guys.
the category i couldn't post in until i added company info was trading platforms
