The most important thing you can do for your personal growth right now is.... NETWORK!

Now is the time to be building your Rolodex, and starting to put together your "Team"...

  • Lenders for your customers
  • Support staff for you
    • Title Companies
    • Mortgage Lenders
    • Private Money
    • Appraisers & Inspectors
    • Contractors
    • Marketing
    • Buyer's List
  • Invest time in yourself...

Welcome! I'm fairly new as well! You should start networking immediately. I believe I've learned more in this past month on bigger pockets then I have in the past year!

You should send college requests to your surrounding investors with a brief message about how you're new and and that any pointers or guidance would be greatly appreciated! They will be more then happy to assist.

Go to the REI meetings in your area and network like crazy!

Best of luck

Jo

Not personally, but the best source for what you seek would be your local REIA... you can find them on the global directory at nationalreia dot org.

Welcome to BP @LaShawn Payton. Please do not join the Fortune Builders mastery plan. Anything you can learn from them for $20k, you can learn here for free. And what is even better here is that you can get information specific to our area, as opposed to a curriculum that is not location specific.

Welcome LaShawn! There is a Baltimore REIA meetup several times per month. $19 per meeting for non members, but I think they have a free meetup occasionally. There is also the BWI Investors REIA meetup at the BWI Marriott Linthicum. This one is much larger. I have not been to a BWI one yet but they have several every month. Just look up REIA on Meetup.com within miles of your location. I'm new too and exactly where you are in the journey. Good luck! Jo, John and Paul thank you for the awesome advice!

Russel thank you. I went to the free intro version of Fortune Builders. I also have had some exposure to US Tax Lien Association programs and they are very aggressive. I'm glad I passed on their 20-30k training programs. I'm learning a ton just from reading books, connecting on BP forums, and researching my local market.

Russell, I've decided not to join FB. I feel that money can be used to do actual business, and I have people in my family who are already flipping houses and have passive income. I want to learn from others as I build my business. Thank you for that advice...

That is a great choice LaShawn!  I don't personally know Fortune Builders, but generally speaking anything a guru program claims they can teach, you can learn on Bigger Pockets with a little time invested posting, reading the forums, and listening to the podcasts...all for free!

Hi @LaShawn Payton

Welcome! Glad you're here. There are lots of ways to learn more and getting involved in the local real estate investor community in Maryland is something I'd also put on the beginner list. Bigger Pockets is great. Listen to their podcasts in the car and you'll learn a TON.

Also, I'd be happy to point you in the right direction for things to think about and consider as you make a decision regarding your next steps.

Please check out my profile and reach out if you think I might be able to help you. I have lots of clients in the same boat- just getting started and trying to make the best possible choices as they move forward. It's great that you're reaching out for how to get started. That's a VERY smart first step. :)

Liz

Welcome to BP @LaShawn Payton There are a lot of investors here on BP to network with from the greater DC Baltimore area.

There are LOTS of investor groups in the DC Baltimore area. A search of the National REIA site should bring up many groups and search Meetup.com for Real estate investing groups. The Upper Marlboro REIA run by Sherman Ragland may be the closest to you in MD
