Hello Zachary,

I am new to REI so my advice may be void. However I was given the advice by an older investor to find a property that I am relatively comfortable with and to go for it. I have also heard in a podcast to just make the deal its your first opportunity to invest and as Andre stated you have the passion for it now. If you do option 2 or3 you greatly increase your chances of success because its a house hack. And with a single family to du, triplex the barrier of entry is so low and you can scale up. I think if you have the cushion its the perfect opportunity. And you mentioned condo and invest I believe the house hack is the best opportunity to get ahead.

Everyone in this discussion is of some military affiliation and live in SC. And it seems that we are all interested in REI a meetup should happen.

I am looking to be soon myself and do a house hack as well. I like these for of unconventional ideas for housing. Van life, campers, living rooms, and what I'm considering a garage which i just posted and more. I remember there being a BP podcast on someone living in the living room is a great podcast and i think it could pan out.

Hello,

The concept of house hacking makes a great deal of sense to me. I am 22 and I think I am in a solid financial state. I want to build my financial runaway and really getting a jump start on finical independence is the goal. I agree with Scott Trench and I see no better opportunity than to house hack. I am currently working on a plan to follow through to successfully house hack. I am reading set for life for a second time looking to catch every nugget in set for life to go in well educated. A way that I think I could really come out on top is by living in a garage and renting out the main rooms. I don't plan to do a make it a full conversion by any means but to keep it a fully functional garage that I live in. Plan considerations included below, I would love feedback. I am not sure if this is a ridiculous plan but If feasible I will share the process because sifting through the forms there isn't a great deal on the unconventional duplex or just living in a room in SF.

(considerations)

1. If it is permitted by the City and HOA.

2.Heating and cooling options.

3. Parking.

(Plans)

1. Get Permission to go ahead.

2. mini split air conditioner, insulation for garage door pop in options . (1k)

3. Live close to work so transportation isn't a major focus. (500)

4. paint, epoxy flooring

(2k initial investment, rent three rooms live free ? )

hello I have been researching real estate for about 5 months daily. Analysis paralysis, I am young and I feel that I am prepared and I will make a deal happen rather it be good or great. I am deployed returning in July and I will be buying not later than August. If anyone knows any ways to speed up the process when I touch down in the states i would greatly appreciate advice. I am looking to buy in the Charleston as a house hack (@Sotttrench) preferably near the Air Force base if possible any help on the market would be greatly appreciated as well.

@Michael Limina I was quite nervous to buy in Charleston because I didn’t plan on it being my primary residence. I have been warming up to the area however through research. I’m looking to get a single family but I am open to the idea of a duplex or triplex if the numbers come out well. I am looking to pay around 150 - 200k and I’m looking at a 3-4 or bedroom on a property built relatively new. I am not sure if that’s really possible in the market but in the next 4-6 months I would like to close on a property meeting similar standards.

@Amy Bates no ma'am I have not the slightest idea about the opportunities. I am beginner in the real estate investment realm and I am looking to make some okay decisions to give me a head start toward financial independence . Have you by chance been looking further into the North Charleston area?
