Sounds like a good start @Elijah Jay Dangerfield
I'd say in addition to reaching out to local investors, go to local meetups (download meetup app) and network there. Reach out to title companies, realtors, brokerages, contractors, appraisers etc... Basically make a list of ALL parties that could potentially be involved in a real estate deal in any capacity from beginning to end, then write out or think of how what YOU do can relate to them and create a win-win situation if at all...then contact them and speak to them about that.
Don't compete, dominate.

@Alex Capozzolo thanks for posting the link to your blog article there. I'm reading it now, love that I can literally fine tune my strategies as I'm working through them, by reading from the experience of others!
@Marshall M. Drive for dollars at all? Those properties that you find through physically seeing that it is distressed can provide you with a much higher success rate! Also, How many/at what frequency have you done follow ups to your pre-foreclosure. It's important to remember that many deals don't actually hit home until between the 3rd and 5th touch (assuming the seller hasn't told you to take them off your list yet)

listsource:
Probates
Absentee
Pre-foreclosure
And like @Elizabeth Wilson said, Driving for dollars because no one else has that list. Definitely a stable in my lead generation strategy.
Stay learning, always

Driving for dollars is a great way to get very solid leads to add to your direct mail campaigns. Note that I said "add to" your direct mail.
My humble opinion is that D4D is good for getting started on a tighter budget, but once you've got money saved up (if you dont already) then it is best to send out mailer campaigns to lists and include your D4D as a "list" that complements a pre-foreclosure, absentee owner, probate etc...campaign
And of course don't underestimate the follow ups...each time you touch back (in the form of 30\60\90...etc) your odds of getting a call that leads to a close go up, with the 5th touch being where most follow up deals are closed, with an 81% success rate I believe to have read on an article here on BP.
Keep grinding

My 24 years young wife and I are very much looking forward to being there for the first time and taking in all of what is in store. As an INTJ you all will have to be aware ahead of time that I come off as unapproachable at first but am actually incredibly fulfilled by productive and intellectual conversation.
We'll be seeing you all there.
Please do reach out and connect here in the meantime:)

Big kudos for taking the plunge! What, if anything at all, are you considering to be your strategy going forward?

you hit the nail on the head, wholesaling is lead generation for investors of various types.
When it comes to automation there is not a one size fits all but one key component is having a team in place and great systems but around modern technologies (I.e mail chimp, podio, globiflow, text and phone services, virtual assistants to do screening and schedule appointments etc)
