Douglas, you have some great ideas...
What else do you use? I have seen on here that some people contact fire departments to get a list of homes they have been to for homes to wholesale. I have also heard of contacting lawyers especially those for divorce.
I am trying to make a list so when I start I have plenty of people to contact...

Welcome Lloyd! I am a "newbie" but am not new tho this site whatsoever. I will be starting to invest come August where I know where I am living but until then I have been learning as much as I can.
To tell you the truth this is the best place to learn about real estate. I own and have read 5 books (I think...) and the information they contain you either know is guru talk or information I already learned on here. So if you are looking for the best way to start, start here and read every new post you can. Find what you want to do and read all the posts in that section of the website as well. I have been here for about a year and have just read everything I can and I really feel I know more then I need to, to start. Of course I don't know everything but I feel I know must of what you can't learn "on the job".
This site will be the best resource to you (or any other new investor) because you will learn what investing REALLY is. So take a while to learn everything on the site because its FREE and offers more than all the books I've read, and I'm sure most would agree with me.
What animal would you be? We already know mia would be a tabby...
Wrong, "In my own words" says how she enjoys tabbies... I am assuming cats...
Looks like spam to me...
I know it is an awesome gadget let alone business tool. I know I would get great use and Im sure it would help with the REI business I will FINALLY be starting next year. I am a college kid and will need the unlimited texts. It's crazy how much I text... kind of sad probably.
As for it making sense out of the box, that is just how Mac is. I have convinced MANY MANY people to get mac stuff and I can honestly say I have NEVER heard someone they will do anything different. Everything is just more simple and more efficient. Unless you are restricted to pc for business I simply don't understand why you wouldn't use Mac. I can tell Josh is with me :D

I was going to start a thread but I figure me asking which is the best way to market is essentially the same thing as this thread.
For those who feel internet marketing is the way to go how do you get people to your site? Do you search absentee owners and promote your site with a postcard or do just promote through the internet? I guess I am just struggling to understand how you can only market on the internet.
I would be using this for wholesaling as well as rentals and what not if that would impact any answer...
So I am about to switch and am an apple fan boy so you would think there would be no competition here.
But for those who have the I phone if I buy it do I have to get the apple web service which is $30 a month and then text messages which is another $20. Can you not get around this? They have an option for any other internet capable phones that $25 web&text unlimited plan. I feel this is incredibly stupid if true that you basically paying $25 for visual voicemail which I don't even care about... It just seems weird and I have found no way around that...
I would advise against sprint. I am on it because I am in missouri and that is where the headquarters are but am going to switch to ATT. Sprint service is ok but the customer service is TERRIBLE. If you ever have a problem it is going to be VERY VERY painful.
That could be a problem... although it may the next guy in line with all the 10 year plans of course...

1. Start an LLC
2. Start wholesaling
3. Buy at least one cash flowing property (50% rule)
4. Graduate college (man, that is weird)
5. Be able to not call myself a REI newbie anymore! Well ok I will only have a little experience...
