I second Mitch Coluzzi.  Having worked in both the scrap and towing industries in the past that would be the most legal and safe way to get rid of them.  The towing company will auction them off and if they don't sell will scrap them.  Company I worked for years ago had their own scrapyard a block away from the impound lot.

Just show up at the Caribou Coffee (3220 Ingersoll Ave) around 5:30 or 6:00.

I've run across a few posts and podcast discussions that talk about doing some kind of land trust for these.  I've also heard these are getting more difficult because of clauses put into the bank contracts.  Never done one myself.

Welcome Scott.  There is usually a good crowd for the meet up.  It's very informal and generally two or three different conversations going on.  You should definitely give it a try.

Meet up happens third Thursday of the month @5:30.  We have been meeting at Caribou on Ingersoll.  Had a good meeting last night.  Two new people showed.  A little smaller group this month we had about 9.  Hope you can make it next month.

Welcome Phil, BP is a great resource. Search the site and you will find posts that cover a lot of your current questions and ones you will come up with going forward. There are several free training resources, take advantage of them, they are especially helpful when starting out. Listen to the podcasts, they are a wealth of great information. I download them and listen to them on my way to and from work on my touchscreen. We have a local BP meet up the 3rd Thursday of each month (Apr 21st this month) at 5:30PM. We are currently meeting at the Caribou Coffee on Ingersoll Ave in Des Moines. You can also check out the local REIA at http://www.iareai.org

I've only been to a couple meetings so can't tell you a lot about them yet.

@Taylor Marvin, I'll take those lender referrals.  Email them to me if you would.

Hopefully we see you at the next meet up Phil.

My kids go to Norwalk schools and they are great. There is a local REIA group also that you might be interested in http://iareia.org/.  They meet the 4th Tuesday of the month.  There is a calendar link on their main page.  They are a member pay group that brings in speakers to their meetings etc.  The local BP meet up is more informal and is more geared around networking and discussing local trends etc.

Both have their merits, I've been trying to get to both of them.

Welcome Anthony

I second all that Taylor said.  BP meet up is the third Thursday of the month at 5:30PM.  Podcasts are awesome, I download them to my surface and listen to them on my 25 min drive to and from work.

I believe the 4th Tuesday are their normal meetings.  They have a calendar link on the main page.
