Post: Biggest Issues for Foreigners Investing in US Real Estate

I would say they are more like hoops than issues.

For example, having to file a US tax return can be a chore but not a big deal in my opinion.

Opening a bank account is very easy if you can visit a branch one time. LLC's are very easy to set up.

Not advice but check if you're a Australian resident for 'tax purposes'.  This may affect how much CG you pay.

Hi @Brayden Currey

I made the move from Australian to US investing as there are so many more opportunities available. I find Aussies are used to a huge mortgage which is not always required in the US. There are many lending options available besides traditional finance that makes being a foreigner irrelevant somewhat.

If you can partner with a good team on the ground, that makes all the difference.

All the best!

Hi Nicholas,

Are looking to invest in the US or move there?

Investing there, I focused on the people on the ground I am working with. The right team can make any market work even when investing from overseas.

Hi Salvador,

I am a non resident investor. I didn't need an ITIN till I submitted my first tax return with the IRS.

Many investors like to set up an LLC for a variety of reasons.

All the best!
