Umh, good try, but no.

That's funny, I saw a guy the other day that was holding a sign that said something about needing money for a beer.

Is it really good for the environment to destroy all the used car parts, possibly forcing new ones to be made to fix older cars? Is all the waste of energy and materials involved with this program really offset by the fuel savings of a few mph per car?

Mike

I say NO it's not worth it.

Your question as stated above was:

"I don't think other countries are being "forced" to keep quiet. If you have evidence of that please do provide so."

You didn't say "Give me evidence of European countries forced to keep quiet. I'm not talking about just Europe, I'm talking about the world and governments all over the world stealing money via taxes from their people, which is why I brought up Cuba.

Cash for clunkers is just one example of govt theft via taxes.

So the people of Cuba are free to speak out against their govt.?

Fair enough. I guess my confusion was when you said:

"There are real estate commissions. 6% to the Selling Agent / Buying Agent that I have the bank paying once this deal goes through"

It sounded like you wanted your C buyer to pay for the expenses.

I agree. Bush started the bailout and Obama is continuing it. Now that is CHANGE!

Cash for clunkers is more of the same. The only difference is this program takes tax payer $ to fund it, then puts the tax payer into debt to pay for their new "fuel efficient" car.

Jeff, I'm not bashing the consumerism, I'm stating a fact. It would be hypocritical of me considering I've replaced all my tv/monitors from tube to lcd's and remodeling kitchen is on my list. It's a fact of life, but not common in many other places, yes?

And your 2nd paragraph, yes, we agree, the program is replacing old ones with newer ones. Where did I ever dispute that?

I guess I'm not seeing an issue here. There are lots of things that we do in the US that are not common in other parts of the world, like sitting by and doing nothing while our govt. steals our money to give it to a "Cash for clunkers" program. Other countries are forced to keep quite while their govt. steals their money, we are not. I don't see the use in comparing the greatest country in the world to other countries.

You didn't dispute the fact of what the program is doing but you do seem to think that somehow printing more money, giving the bill to the tax payers and throwing away running cars is a good thing. The fact that other countries have done similar things and have not canceled the program is not evidence of success.

Bottom line, if this program was a success then Obama would have no issue proving it. In fact, you would see the "proof" all over every liberal news channel and newspaper in the country.

Again, what do you care? It's not your money. Even if this program was not tax funded it would still be a joke. As far as "consumerism" goes, that's another topic but very important to the economy. You can bash it all you want but that is how the economy grows.

And BTW, What do you think this program is doing? Besides the replacements being more fuel efficient, they are doing the same thing by replacing old outdated items with newer ones.

I think it's pretty much on par with trashing a perfectly functional (but outdated) kitchen/bath in order to install latest maple cabinets w/ granite countertops. Or trashing the old white appliances because they had rounded corners and replace them with en vogue stainless steel ones (or red).

It's the American way.

At least on a car one could argue the newer one is more efficient which is hardly the case with a new kitchen for example. Debatable on the appliances.

This is a ridiculous comparison. Tax dollars do not go towards remodeling your kitchen. This program is a joke.

As far as the "It's the American way" comment....What do you care if someone wants to spend their hard earned money on making their home nicer? It's better then sending it to the black hole in Washington.
