Hi Sam. Your post came up in my search, as I'm going down the same path.  I know no one responded, but what did you end up doing?  I'm planning on building a portfolio of long term buy and holds, with some flipping here or there as appropriate.

Thanks!

Thanks @Fady Fareed I've seen your posts come up a lot, so I can tell you are using BP fully.  I plan on doing the same.

Welcome to BP @Marcell Chaney

I have done a lot of networking over the years, and it can be tough for an introvert.  It will help a lot to go in knowing what you will say. Practice your introduction about yourself "Hi, I'm Marcell, and I'm a new Real Estate investor looking to break into flipping/buy and hold, etc". That makes it a lot easier to strike up conversations and not feel overwhelmed.

It's important in networking to help other people, not enriching yourself. If you do that, it will come back to you, with interest. When I previously owned a IT services company, and went to networking, I would give advice freely, often solving problems for people that I could have charged. That establishes you as a friendly, trustworthy person, that people want to work with.

You should also post a picture here on BP, so people recognize you at the event, or see you at the event and recognize you here on BP.

Good Luck!

Thanks @Robert Syfert. I'm more focused on properties that I can fix up and rent out, but I probably will examine Turnkey properties more closely at some point, and I'll talk to you when I do.

Thanks for the welcomes @Ramon Huerta, @Ericka G., & @Mark Nolan!

@Douglas Royse Do you just wholesale in the Grand Rapids area, or in other areas of the state as well?

@Keri Middaugh I've been coming up to Presque Isle, north of Alpena since I was a kid, and just purchased our home up here a little over a year ago. I love it up here too. I've considered vacation rentals, but I'm only familiar with lake rentals up here, and the properties I've looked at on the MLS so far have just seemed to expensive to work. I need to learn more about the other kinds of vacation rentals they have up here and see what could work.

Hi Everyone,

I'm a new member to Bigger Pockets, by way of the podcast. (Just finished the wonderful episode 109, on Asset Protection.)

I currently have one rental, a condo in Plymouth, MI. Purchased in 2005 to live in, and turned into a rental once I moved out. In reality, it's been my course in what to do, and what definitely not to do as a landlord. All lessons well earned, and which I plan to make well worth the education expense.

I'm now looking to grow from 1 door now to 25-50 doors in the next 5-10 years, with the goal of eventually having replacement income. I'm very interested in Multifamily, though I haven't decided on my final direction yet.

I have a 6 month emergency fund in the bank, and will now be focusing on making my next purchase in 2017. I live outside of Alpena, in Northern Michigan (population about 10k, with a very slow population decline.) I may invest here, or in the Metro Detroit area downstate.

I'd love to network with local members, and I look forward to becoming part of the Bigger Pockets community.

Post: Online rental applications form PDF

I know this post is rather old, but in case you went ahead with your plan to have a PDF of the application emailed to you, I would be very careful. That PDF would contain everything needed to steal someone's identity. Email is not secure, which means that it could be intercepted. Additionally, you are gathering the information from a Wordpress website. If the form isn't encrypted, it also is easily intercepted (though it will be open once it gets to the email stage regardless, unless you use encrypted email). Plus, unless you are diligent about updating Wordpress, it will be easy to hack as flaws are exposed (which is what the updates fix). You see this happen a lot with spam hitting Wordpress websites. I am not a lawyer, but I would be very careful about going this route.
