@Bob Smith yes is the short answer. And it depends is the long answer.

Many of the North Dallas HOAs have a variety of restrictions - percentage of total homes, the owner has to live in it 1 yr or 2 years.

Always check the CC&Rs.

@Ashton A. Moore first point, you will never receive a perfect inspection report. what does your realtor say ? The option period is for you to negotiate items that are safety issues. And for you to know what issues you are willing to take on. What repairs have you asked them to fix ?

@David Freed

yes, I have experience in both. And each have unique pockets. You’re going to find more duplexes in Richardson.

It also depends on your price point and budget. because this is going to be your personal residence, at this point, I would just keep aware of city news and developments, and neighborhood pockets. As soon as you can make a trip out here, the best is to actually visit both.

@Benjamin Sulka I, 100% support house hacking as an entry level into real estate investing. Your personal example is exactly why I like it.

@Miguel Del Real if you are just starting out, and maybe you’ve never bought your own personal resident, it is risky to not have somebody in your corner. You can most definitely do it just know it’s a higher risk. You don’t know what you don’t know.
