Hey @Melanie VanBuskirk great to have another local investor on BiggerPockets. There are some really really awesome local people on BP. We also have organized a local meetup and if your interested message me I would be happy to extend an invitation. We have a pretty sizeable group of~20-25 people all of which whom (In my Opinion) want to help one another grow profitably through different types of investing.

Do you still own those units in MI? Do you have any property locally? What part of town is your Hair Salon-Tattoo Shop?

Take care

Michael

 Denard there are some very successful people in our area who are still active duty or have since retired. My take on the difficulty of maintaining both professions is that if you want it bad enough nothing will stop you. You are in a great situation with being able to utilize incentives that your military service has to offer. Two close associates of mine have both been active duty and have since retired. I know for a fact that one of them started investing heavily while still active duty and has blown up since he retired ;)

I say all of that to say this. You will make it work if you are commited to making it work. It's all about your mindset and what you want to get out of REI.

@Robert Leonard I know you agree with me ;)

 Welcome to the BP community Denard! It's my pleasure to have another local person join our community. I suggest educating yourself as much as possible by reading the forums, listening to the podcasts and  connecting with people on the site as well as meeting other local investors (Just to mention a few). Also, if you have a question and after you research it you still do not have an answer don't hesitate to post a question here on the forums. One of the major advantages of BP is that people here really want to help and there is a high probablity that they have already experienced what you are going through. I personally have had my fair share of help from people I would never have imagined offering help. Trust me on this... This site is crazy awesome!!!

Get in touch with me if you need any guidance of starting locally. I have a group of people that I trust and would be happy to recommend them.

Take care-

Michael

 Welcome to the BP community Marian!  It's wonderful to have someone from the Shreveport/Bossier area join the site.

A few questions for you regarding your initial introduction. How is your contractor not consistent? Are you satisfied with his work? Is he on budget/schedule? Provide more details because we might be able to steer you in the right direction.

I know you say your "flipping" this house. How much longer is the project going to take? Do you already have a real estate professional lined up to sell the property?

Message me if you have any questions I would be glad to help.

@Kendrick Hudson

Did you get your contract completed properly? Did you put up the earnest money deposit? Do you have a buyer lined up? PM me your deal so we can talk further.

Chelsy -

I don't know exactly where to claim this expense on your taxes but... each year my accountant asks for those figures from my insurance providers. I know he deducts them some sort of way... Ask your tax professional.  They can give you a more specific answer.

Take care.
