I'm betting $1500 won't make a significant difference in the quality of your life whereas it will in his.  Sometimes we do something for someone when we don't have to.  There are some here who will say, "hell no" but you need to do what you feel is right even though you don't need to. 

I've been investing in precious metals for years, brass and lead.  

I can't help much with a floating house.  I'm more familiar with a houseboat.  Good luck.

@Tanisha Costello  Is it a floating house or a true houseboat?   My houseboat is mobile whereas a floating house is stationary. There's a big difference. It's pretty easy to get a value on a houseboat. Are you looking to purchase it for yourself, flip or rent?

South Georgia is a pretty large area.  Where is the property?

Sounds like the extra income from your rentals has eased your pain and fears.
