Hey @Chris Vista, hostas are my usual go-to plant for landscaping, which won't be helpful in this situation! Have you thought about Barberry? It's a lovely thorny bush that is quite hardy, and I think would probably grow well where you live in Canada. 

I tend to stay away from Craigslist, but I think it depends on what city you're in. I don't have anything new to mention that others haven't already said in regards to sites to list your rentals on, however, I did want to mention that a sign in the front yard is always a great idea as well! You'll be directly targeting anyone in the area who might walk or drive by.

So so sorry you had this experience @KIran K.. We've had our fair share of not so good contractors, but not to that degree. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm glad that there was at least a little silver lining in this situation - you've gained a level of knowledge that only that kind of experience can bring. Thanks for the tips! I haven't had to deal with any serious pet odors in properties to-date, but I know some people who have who swear by Kilz primer. They paint the sub-floor with a few coats, and say it does wonders!
